The Health Care Provider is the primary authority in maintaining a healthy camp population throughout the duration of each camp program. The Health Care Provider oversees the camp’s health and safety program in accordance with American Camping Association (ACA) standards, state health regulations, and Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA), and Girl Scouts of North East Ohio (GSNEO) safety policies. This role includes administering routine and emergency care, distributing medications, and providing first aid to ensure that each camper and staff member receives quality healthcare throughout their camp experience.
Beyond direct care, the Health Care Provider upholds and implements detailed health procedures outlined in the camp’s healthcare policies, ensuring proper stewardship and wellness practices across all camp activities. This role also encompasses managing the health center, maintaining accurate and secure health records, and conducting camper health screenings. Working under the guidance of the Camp Director and in consultation with licensed physicians or an RN as needed, the Health Care Provider is instrumental in training staff on health protocols, emergency preparedness, and communicable disease control.
In addition, the Health Care Provider provides ongoing health education to campers and staff on topics such as hygiene, hydration, sun safety, and basic first aid, fostering a proactive approach to well-being. This role requires strong collaboration and communication with camp leadership to integrate health and safety seamlessly into all activities. Emotional support for campers, especially those new to the camp environment, is also a critical component, promoting a nurturing and responsive setting. Ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, maintaining the readiness of all emergency health equipment, and contributing to end-of-season evaluations further reinforce the Health Care Provider’s role as a trusted leader in providing a safe, supportive, and enriching camp experience for all.
