GENERAL

The Health and Wellness Outreach Facilitator provides educational programming, and outreach to The Claremont Colleges Community and provides seminars/series on topics ranging from mental health care, substance use prevention, coping skills, test anxiety and other topics as they relate to the self-care of college students. Pitzer College serves as the lead College overseeing this intercollegiate position in collaboration with Monsour Counseling and Psychological Services (MCAPS) staff; the incumbent will be an employee of Pitzer College

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Develop, implement, coordinate and assess health and wellness initiatives at Pitzer, including Strive to Thrive programming, in collaboration with Pitzer Academic Support Services.
  • Develop, implement, coordinate and assess outreach programs and psycho educational/prevention workshops focused on mental health concerns and enhancement.
  • Engage & Educate the Pitzer and 7C Community on Mental Health & Well-Being team and Strive2thrive Programming during Orientation Adventure, Alumni Weekend, Parent Weekend and other key stakeholder events and programs
  • Create workshops and presentations to FYS, Writing Center and other academic areas
  • Work collaboratively with constituencies of The Claremont Colleges (a.k.a. 7C) to enhance outreach education and prevention services on campus. Liaise with MCAPS clinicians, MCAPS Case Manager and central student services (e.g. OBSA, CLSA, Chaplains, HEO, Athletics, EmPOWER, etc.) to understand 7C student trends to develop and implement proactive and responsive collaborative initiatives to further support opportunities with related student clubs and organizations.
  • Develop and coordinate strategies to provide outreach and prevention services to further support at-risk populations.
  • Develop and coordinate a variety of group interventions, including support series on topics that are relevant to campus needs (life hacks, skill building, emotional regulation, anxiety toolbox, sleep, substance use and education, impact of social media e.g. bullying, loneliness, life-long sustainability and self-care for scholar-activists, suicide prevention, healthy relationships etc.)
  • Incorporate multicultural diversity, intersectionality in partnership with student services whenever possible (e.g., OBSA, CLSA, Chaplains, QRC, HEO, CAPAS, EmPOWER, Athletics, etc.) and social justice concepts and principles into outreach services.
  • Work collaboratively with 7C institutions, The Claremont Colleges Services (TCCS) and Pitzer Student Affairs to develop and implement staff and faculty shared training opportunities.
  • Develop and implement programming and mentoring for students related to student life and development experiences, serving to normalize emotions (versus mental health needs where counseling is recommended), understanding signs of distress or concern, when and how to refer students to resources, webinar training, training series including, but not limited to: recognizing and understanding substance abuse resources for students, recognizing anxiety and eating disorders, suicide prevention, survivors of mass shootings, supporting trans and undocumented students, etc.
  • Attend Pitzer and TCCS/7C specific events as needed (e.g. 7C Fresh Check Day, response to national landscape-based impact to community, response to tragedy, etc.).
  • Establish a vision, goals and action plan for mental health, suicide prevention and substance use outreach programming to include the identification of national, community, and local resources to support student well-being.
  • Assist Mental Health & Well-Being Hub in drop-in crisis intervention with students of concern
  • Track and report on outreach outcomes (i.e. numbers in attendance, effectiveness, etc.).
  • Work in collaboration with Pitzer’s Mental Health & Wellness Ambassadors and Active Minds Ambassadors on outreach and programming.
  • Attend TCCS Student Services director meetings.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

The individual must possess knowledge, skills and ability to be able to successfully perform the essential functions of the position or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

  • Demonstrated ability to implement prevention services, as evidenced by training, participation, and experience in designing and implementing outreach services to a diverse population.
  • Strong ability and knowledge base to build successful partnerships in fostering education and prevention including but not limited to substance use, suicide awareness, anxiety, depression and social isolation.
  • Knowledge of the challenges and concerns of college students at private residential campuses.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse staff, faculty and student population
  • Strong written oral and verbal communication in English.
  • Exhibits professionalism, and teamwork in all aspects of the work
  • Dedication and effectiveness in working as a team, as well as independently.
  • Knowledge of the unique mental health challenges of diverse student populations, including individuals from ethnically and racially diverse backgrounds, individuals representing varying gender and sexual orientations, and identities, international students, scholar-activists, and student athletes.

Education/Experience: Must have a master’s degree in counseling or clinical psychology, Social Work or Mental Health Counseling or a related field. Must have one to two years of related experience in the mental health field. Must have work experience with college students.

  • Supervising Mental Health & Wellness Ambassadors student employees or MSW Graduate Interns who support programming.

Time Type Full-time, 11 months (off June)

Work Model: On- Campus

Work Schedule This is a full time position working 40 hours per week, 11 months per year from July to May (off the month of June) The hours for this position are from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. These hours may vary due to needs of the College or department.

Compensation: Budgeted Salary Range: $5,858.67 - $5,950.00 per month
