Job Description

Toromont Cat is seeking a Health and Safety Specialist to join our team. The Health and Safety Specialist will play a key role in elevating and continuously improving the support provided to the supervisory and management teams.

The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the Toromont Cat team to ensure all health and safety policies, procedures, and programs are effectively implemented and clearly communicated. This role will deliver health and safety services using the 4 As mindset: Assess, Analyze, Audit, and Assist.

Full Time, Permanent

Compensation

$69,520.00 to 86,900.00

The listed base salary is just one component of our total rewards package, and performance-based or discretionary bonuses may be available.

In a typical day, YOU will:

  • Model the way for safe, environmentally sound and healthy work behaviors in support of Toromont's Health and Safety Policies, Programs and initiatives
  • Partner with our customers in support of Toromont Cat's and individual site safety requirements
  • Act as an industry specific resource and provide support to Toromont Cat's mining business units
  • Audit workgroups and mining site locations for compliance with corporate policies, applicable legislation, regulations and standards
  • Assist site management in understanding and correcting compliance deficiencies through the implementation of effective and sustainable actions
  • Assist site management in the investigation of incidents to determine root causes and drive the development of corrective actions and preventative measures
  • Assist site management in the implementation of health and safety programs, including but not limited to training, assist in the drafting of site-specific SOPs, emergency response plan, medical monitoring program (if needed)
  • Collect and analyze safety data and conduct related research to identify trends
  • Prepare and produce reports and statistics for review and action with the management team
  • Provide “best industry practices” solutions for workplace hazards
  • Identify training requirements and opportunities for site management and, where possible, conduct and/or coordinate training and education programs for employees, management and customers as required based on site requirements
  • Work directly with external authorities and groups (government, industry, vendors, customers) as a representative of Toromont Cat

Must-haves for this role:

  • Post-secondary in OH&S program or related discipline experience
  • Current professional designation or willingness/ ability to achieve CRSP or other OHS designation as required.
  • 3- 5 years’ experience in Health and Safety related matters as a leader or significant contributor for an industrial work environment
  • Solid experience in health and safety management tools (Velocity is an asset)
  • Familiarity with construction and/or mining legislation is an asset.
  • Knowledge of industrial hygiene and ergonomics would be an asset in this role.
  • Experience or knowledge in WCB acts and legislation of different provinces (Newfoundland and Labrador and Quebec in particular)
  • Good knowledge of risk management principles or other OHS related training.
  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, Bilingualism in both English and French would be an asset.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Action oriented and results driven.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint; and comfortable with systems and other in-house OHS tools.
  • Is able to work both independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
  • Is comfortable operating at various levels of the organization, dealing with individual employees in a support/training capacity to sharing information/strategies /key messages with management on a regular basis.
  • Has a valid driver’s license; willing to travel
