We are currently seeking a full-time Health & Safety Specialist reporting to the Manager, HR/H&S. Our organization is a growing and dynamic business and operates in our two facilities just off of Hwy. 36 in Lindsay, Ontario. This position may require flexibility in shifts to accommodate our various shifts throughout the plant.

Key Responsibilities:
• Embody and promote company’s core values (Integrity, Growth and Resilience).
• Maintain compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) and all applicable regulations.
• Monitor legislative changes and make recommendations for improvements to policies and procedures.
• Assist in the development of the company’s Health & Safety Management System.
• Act as the main contact for the Ministry of Labour (MOL), regulatory agencies, and other service providers.
• Manage all WSIB interactions and claims.
• Determine and coordinate workplace accommodation as required.
• Conduct regular risk assessments and job hazard analyses.
• Recommend and implement corrective actions to mitigate identified risks.
• Coordinate inspections, investigations, and occupational safety activities across departments.
• Work with leaders on investigations of workplace incidents, near misses, and injuries.
• Document findings and develop action plans to prevent recurrence.
• Provide training to leaders and employees on occupational safety issues.
• Organize third-party training programs (e.g., Forklift Certification, Working at Heights, etc.).
• Promote a culture of safety through awareness campaigns and toolbox talks.
• Facilitate health and safety onboarding.
• Maintain and update emergency response plans.
• Conduct drills and ensure readiness for fire, chemical, and other potential emergencies.
• Management Co-Chair of the Chemical Management Team.
• Lead the Chemical Management Team.
• Provide guidance and recommendations during committee meetings.
• Ensure contractors and visitors comply with site safety requirements.
• Review contractor safety plans before work begins.
• Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
Who You Are:
• Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related field.
• Safety certification training (e.g., CRSP or CRST) is preferred.
• JHSC Certification, Valid First Aid, Confined Space, Lock out Tag out, EWP, Lift Truck, Fall Protection are preferred.
• Three years' experience in occupational health and safety in an industrial establishment.
• Thorough knowledge and understanding of OHSA.
• Strong English communication skills (both verbal and written).
• Ability to work effectively alone and prioritize tasks.
• Must be a highly motivated, service and team-oriented individual with attention to detail.
