General Summary:
The Environmental Health and Safety (HS) Manager will work under the Director of OEHS. The HS Manager will perform complex safety and health program work. Work involves developing safety policies and procedures; participating in the safety training and education of staff; inspecting work areas and activities for hazards; and investigating accidents. May train others. Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
The primary responsibilities of the H&S Manager will include training and outreach, program development and compliance in the following areas: fire safety, laboratories, offices, buildings, grounds, shops, and construction sites. The HS Manger may also review safety issues related to construction and renovation and performs industrial hygiene activities including indoor air quality assessments.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in relevant scientific discipline and 3-5 years of environmental health and safety work experience, required.
Specific experience with laboratory, office and facility-based populations, required. Possession of the Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certification or obtaining the ASP certification within 1 year, required. Occasional lifting and moving of heavy drums and other materials, required. Occasional use of level C chemical protective clothing and respiratory protection, required.
