About Te Rūnanga o Kirikiriroa

Te Rūnanga o Kirikiriroa is a kaupapa Māori organisation grounded in a whānau-first, tikanga-based wellbeing approach. Our mahi is guided by our six pou: whanaungatanga, manaakitanga, arohatanga, rangatiratanga, tika and pono. We deliver health and social services across the lifespan and employ over 150 kaimahi working across Kirikiriroa and beyond.

About the Service and Role

This is an opportunity to step into a role that contributes directly to the safety and wellbeing of our people, while strengthening organisational systems, compliance, and practice.

As Health & Safety Advisor, you will work across the organisation to support a proactive and positive health, safety, and wellbeing culture grounded in kaupapa Māori values and best practice frameworks.

In this role, you will:

  • Facilitate health & safety aligned training across the organisation.
  • Support and promote a strong health, safety, and wellbeing culture across all teams
  • Support risk management processes, hazard identification, and control measures
  • Coordinate incident reporting, investigations, and corrective actions
  • Maintain and administer Health & Safety systems, records, training registers, and reporting
  • Liaise and build effective relationships with external agencies, contractors, and council representatives
  • Assist with emergency preparedness planning and response activities
  • Act as the first point of contact within the organisation’s Civil Defence Emergency Management (CDEM) response
  • Support the preparation, coordination, and follow-up of regulatory and contractual audits
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and process development

Skills and Experience

  • Experience in a Health & Safety advisory role for at 2 years minimum
  • Strong knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, risk management, and compliance practices
  • Experience working within ISO-aligned frameworks and systems
  • Strong systems administration and data management capability
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and reporting
  • Excellent organisational and process-driven working style
  • Confidence using digital systems
  • Ability to remain calm and responsive during emergencies and critical incidents
  • Strong relationship management and communication skills
  • Experience working within a kaupapa Māori organisation or similar values-based environment
  • Understanding of tikanga Māori and culturally grounded practice

Qualification

New Zealand Diploma in Workplace Health and Safety Management, or equivalent preferred.
