Head Women’s Basketball Coach

Department: Athletics and Recreation
Reports to: Assistant Vice President and Director of Athletics and Recreation

The Head Women’s Basketball Coach is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and administration of a highly competitive NCAA Division III women’s basketball program. This role includes but is not limited to coaching, recruiting, student-athlete development, fund raising, and ensuring compliance with all institutional, conference, and NCAA regulations.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead all aspects of the women’s basketball program, including practices, competitions, and player development.
  • Develop and execute effective recruiting strategies; ensure compliance with all NCAA recruiting guidelines.
  • Support the academic success, personal growth, and well-being of student-athletes; monitor eligibility and progress.
  • Develop game strategies and training programs to maximize team and individual performance.
  • Manage program operations, including scheduling, travel, equipment, and budget.
  • Coordinate with campus partners (e.g., strength & conditioning, sports medicine, counseling and psychological services) to support student-athlete performance and wellness.
  • Hire, supervise, and evaluate assistant coaches; ensure staff compliance with all applicable rules and policies.
  • Ensure full compliance with NCAA, conference, and University policies and procedures.
  • Maintain safe conditions for facilities and equipment; coordinate maintenance as needed.
  • Represent the program in campus, conference, and external activities, support fundraising, and community engagement initiatives.
  • Oversee camps and clinics in compliance with NCAA and institutional guidelines.
  • Complete required training and perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of collegiate coaching experience preferred.

Skills

  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit and develop student-athletes.
  • Commitment to compliance, integrity, and fostering an inclusive team environment.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Certifications

  • First Aid, CPR, and AED certification required (or ability to obtain upon hire).

Compensation Range

In compliance with the New Jersey Wage Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $71,000.00 - $97,066.67. This range represents the University’s good faith estimate of possible compensation at the time of posting. Stevens Institute of Technology determines compensation based on factors including the position’s scope and responsibilities, the candidate’s experience, education, skills, internal equity, market data, and organizational considerations. The final salary will be set considering departmental budget, qualifications, and relevant credentials. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes additional forms of compensation, such as incentives, stipends, or other applicable pay components.
