Job Description

Are you an experienced RVN looking for your next steps? Do you want to be part of a supportive, forward-thinking team that truly values its nurses? If so, we have an exciting opportunity to work at our Irvine practice as a Head RVN!

About the Role

We’re looking for a passionate, driven Head RVN to join our dynamic team. Our clinics are built on mutual respect, support, and continuous development. You'll be backed by a team that includes a Head Nurse and our RVN Business Partner, someone who truly understands your role and values.

At Vets4Pets, nurses are at the heart of what we do. Our team includes RVNs with specialist training in acupuncture, pain management, behaviour, and Schedule 3 surgical procedures. Whether you're leading consults, monitoring anaesthetics, or providing exceptional in-patient care, you'll be empowered to do what you do best.

And yes - we listen to our nurses. That’s why our clinics are equipped with modern tools and tech that help you deliver the best care possible.

A Little Bit About Us

We have three practices here in Ayrshire, led by four partners - two vets, one RVN, and a practice manager, which means every role has a voice at the table. Our 60-strong team is committed to delivering excellent clinical care and an exceptional client experience.

What makes us different? We genuinely live our values:

  • We treat others the way we’d want to be treated.
  • We’ve got each other’s backs.
  • We laugh, support each other, and communicate openly.
  • And most importantly, we respect work-life balance and individual needs.

We understand that one size doesn’t fit all. That’s why we tailor our rotas and benefits to each colleague, because what inspires one person might not work for another.

Our Clinical Team

Across our three practices, we have:

  • 14 Vets
  • 12 RVNs
  • 2 VCA’s
  • 3 GPD-trained Clinical Lead Vets
  • 3 Clinical Coach RVNs

We believe in continual development and staying ahead of the curve. You’ll always have a team to lean on, even when you’re not in the same building.

What We’re Looking For

We’re after someone who:

  • Is a qualified RVN with experience and a passion for nursing
  • Is keen to progress in their career and not afraid to take control or lead when needed
  • Brings positivity, energy, and a team-focused attitude
  • Leads by example with outstanding clinical and client care
  • Isn’t afraid to get stuck in, and enjoys a team social now and then!

What We Offer

  • Salary up to £36,000, depending on experience
  • Flexible working including full or part time opportunities (30 to 40 hours per week)
  • 1:4 Saturday rota, no OOH
  • Generous CPD allowance, with paid CPD days
  • Professional fees paid
  • AXA private healthcare, extendable to family
  • Enhanced maternity pay
  • Income protection
  • Pension scheme
  • Access to top clinical equipment: multiparameter monitors, fluid pumps, BP monitors, ultrasound
  • Support across all three practices, including three head nurses, three senior nurses, and our RVN business partner
  • Staff discounts including 20% off Pets at Home and the Vet Group

Ready to Join a Practice That Truly Gets You?

If you’re ready for the next step in your nursing journey with a supportive, progressive, and friendly team, we’d love to hear from you.

Apply today and let’s start a conversation.

We take our inspiration from pets in embracing people from all walks of life, and we value, respect and celebrate difference. We encourage our people to be their best selves so that we can create a better world for Pets, our Planet, and People. Our ambition is to reflect the diversity of the communities we operate in, and we are intentional in addressing and removing barriers to create opportunities for the exceptional talent and potential in our communities. Even if your skills and experience don’t perfectly align, if you think you can make a unique contribution through your values and behaviours, we want to hear from you!

About Pets at Home

Since 1991, when we were a wholesaler with a team of just 15, we’ve been focused on getting better every day. By putting pets before profit, working as a team and taking pride in everything we do, we’ve grown into a 451 store network with more than 8,913 colleagues working in our Stores, Grooming Salons, Distribution Centres and Support Office.

We are the UK’s leading pet specialist, providing pet owners with all their product needs, as well as our Vets for Pets practices and Grooming salons. We support our colleagues to work with pride and passion, to bring honesty and integrity to work every day, and to do it all with a sense of fun and fearlessness. We never shy away from having the important conversations and doing what we say we’ll do.

Our values and behaviours are practiced daily across the business and are what really makes us an enjoyable, exciting place to work. We're always striving to develop and reward our colleagues with an extensive in-house series of training programmes, wellbeing initiatives and a comprehensive benefits package. In 2018 we were delighted to be voted top 5 in the Great Place to Work UK’s Large category.

Our colleagues are central to the success of the business and are fully trained in pet care and dedicated to animal welfare. Pets are central to everything that we do and 93% of colleagues have their own pets too!
