Katandra is a key backgrounding and transit depot within the Cunningham portfolio -running approximately 10,000-12,000 head annually moving through the supply chain.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Head Stockperson to join our cattle operations team. This leadership position offers an excellent opportunity for experienced Leading Hands to further develop their leadership capabilities, expand their responsibilities, and contribute to the ongoing success of the team.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting station performance while fostering a positive and safety-focused workplace culture.

Key Responsibilities

Livestock & Operations

  • Lead and coordinate daily mustering activities
  • Oversee livestock welfare in accordance with company policies and industry standards
  • Implement animal husbandry and supplementation programs
  • Monitor livestock health, condition, and pasture quality
  • Provide accurate livestock records and operational reporting
  • Train and mentor employees in safe and effective livestock handling practices

Leadership & Communication

  • Provide strong team leadership and role model company values
  • Communicate operational objectives and daily activities clearly to staff
  • Foster positive working relationships across the business and local communities

Workplace Health & Safety

  • Promote and maintain a strong safety culture
  • Ensure compliance with all company OHS policies and Safe Work Procedures
  • Conduct toolbox talks and assists with risk management processes
  • Ensure incidents are reported and corrective actions implemented

Maintenance & Infrastructure

  • Assist with maintenance and capital improvement programs
  • Maintain fencing, yards, and infrastructure to company standards
  • Support the care and maintenance of plant and equipment

Compliance & Reporting

  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of records, permits, NVDs, and QA documentation
  • Support compliance with legislative and company requirements
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the operation

About You

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Previous experience as a Head Stockperson, Senior Station Hand, or similar role within a large-scale beef cattle operation
  • Strong livestock handling and cattle production knowledge
  • Proven leadership and team development capability
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • A proactive, self-motivated approach
  • Commitment to workplace safety and animal welfare

Desirable

  • Experience within a corporate agricultural environment
  • Agricultural qualifications (preferred but not essential)
