Job Title – Head – Steel Fabrication (Ship Erection) (Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Industry)

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Head – Steel Fabrication (Ship Erection) to lead steel fabrication, assembly, and ship erection operations within a shipbuilding environment. The role is responsible for overseeing production planning, fabrication quality, workforce management, safety compliance, and timely project execution while ensuring adherence to marine industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
Steel Fabrication & Ship Erection Management
Lead all steel fabrication, block assembly, and ship erection activities for shipbuilding projects.
Develop and implement fabrication and erection strategies to achieve project milestones.
Monitor fabrication progress and ensure alignment with project schedules and technical specifications.
Oversee hull construction, structural assembly, outfitting coordination, and erection processes.
Production Planning & Execution
Prepare and manage fabrication and erection schedules in coordination with project teams.
Ensure efficient utilization of manpower, machinery, materials, and yard facilities.
Track production performance and implement corrective actions to address delays or bottlenecks.
Optimize workflows to improve productivity and operational efficiency.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
Ensure fabrication and erection activities comply with classification society standards and project requirements.
Review inspection reports, welding quality records, and non-conformance reports.
Coordinate with quality teams to ensure compliance with marine construction standards.
Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality and workmanship.
Team Leadership & Workforce Management
Lead and mentor fabrication supervisors, engineers, foremen, and production teams.
Establish performance targets and monitor workforce productivity.
Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and operational excellence.
Support employee development through training and technical guidance.
Safety & Risk Management
Ensure strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Conduct regular safety reviews, risk assessments, and toolbox meetings.
Investigate incidents and implement preventive measures.
Foster a strong safety culture across fabrication yards and erection sites.
Stakeholder & Project Coordination
Collaborate with engineering, procurement, quality, planning, and project management teams.
Coordinate with clients, consultants, classification societies, and subcontractors as required.
Provide regular project status updates to senior management.
Support project budgeting, cost control, and resource planning activities.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related discipline.
12–20 years of experience in shipbuilding, heavy engineering, offshore fabrication, or marine construction.
Significant experience managing steel fabrication and ship erection operations.
Strong understanding of welding processes, marine structures, production planning, and quality standards.
