Since 1966, the Capitol Region Education Council (CREC) has been dedicated to providing innovative, high-quality, and cost-effective educational programs and services to meet the diverse needs of children and adults in Greater Hartford. Serving 33 member districts and reaching additional communities statewide, CREC supports approximately 12,000 students annually through more than 120 educational programs. Our offerings include professional development for educators, specialized programming for students with diverse needs, and PreK-12 education across 16 interdistrict magnet schools. Additionally, CREC provides school construction, operations, and cooperative business services, while also delivering programs that help adults build real, job-ready skills.
The Assistant Site Supervisor is responsible for assisting with the management and operations of the Head Start/Early Head Start Center, staffing, and early childhood programming. In partnership with the Site Supervisor, the Assistant Site Supervisor will ensure compliance with all federal, state and local regulatory and legal regulations. In addition, The Assistant Site Supervisor will work as part of the Management team under the direction of the Assistant Director of Operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties/Responsibilities
- Develops and fosters relationships with families, staff, and community providers.
- Ensures a welcoming, safe, and healthy environment for children and staff.
- Assists the Director, Assistant Director, Specialists, and Coordinators in monitoring compliance, supporting instruction, training, counseling, and evaluating staff.
- Assisting in the review of candidates, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and coaching of employees.
- Maintains appropriate ratio and active supervision in all classrooms.
- Schedule and implement parent committees to facilitate home-school connection and parent participation.
- Ensure health and safety monitoring of the facility including indoor and outdoor learning environments; submission of SchoolDude work orders, complete safety drills, and adhere to all Emergency Operations Plans.
- Ensures the tracking of necessary data and provides reports as needed.
- Assists administration in implementing practices and requirements to meet Head Start Performance standards and guidelines; serves as the administration's "voice" in the center.
- Assists in the implementation of seamless, integrated services for children and families by adhering to program-specific work plans, policies, and procedures.
- Supervises Teachers, Teacher Assistants and/or other assigned staff. Monitors and counsels educational staff and takes appropriate action to ensure compliance. Develops and follows up with Improvement Plans as necessary.
- Assists with monitoring and coordinating staff schedules and arranges for coverage as required.
- Assists with maintaining required staffing levels at all times.
- Assists in investigating all child and staff incidences, completing all forms, and notifying appropriate authorities and chain of command.
- Assists with all activities and meetings at the designated center with staff, children, parents, and community members.
- Provides leadership, professional development, and coaching to center employees. Conducts regular meetings and/or training with teaching staff and aides to monitor and evaluate assessments.
- Assists with the development of school schedules and calendars.
- Assists in the recruitment, coordination, and placement of volunteers.
- Assists in identifying needs related to the use of instructional technologies.
- Assists in writing required reports and completing various forms.
- May be responsible for classroom operations in the absence of the Teacher
- Assists with teacher supply requests and monitors the use of supplies and materials, assists in maintaining inventory.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development sessions.
- Implements program in a manner consistent with CREC's mission, vision, code of ethical conduct, policies, and procedures.
- Monitor, facilitate, and support best practices in early education and family service in conjunction with the staff, management, and other content area leads.
- Participate in training opportunities, state meetings, committees, and task forces as appropriate.
- Maintain strict confidentiality concerning Head Start/Early Head Start children, families, and staff per established policies and procedures.
- Establish and carry out content-relevant MOUs for the program.
- Create, foster, and maintain a positive culture and climate across the program and support the mission and vision of CREC and CREC Head Start.
- Ensure compliance with Head Start Performance Standards and all federal, state, and local entities.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree (BA) from four-year college or university, or one to two years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to maintain a flexible schedule, evenings and occasional weekend work may be required
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Motor Vehicle Operator's License, and reliable personal vehicle, is required for local travel between centers, and attendance at meetings, trainings, and professional learning opportunities as required.

Working in CREC's Early Childhood program requires prolonged standing/movement, frequent bending and crouching, lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs, fine motor skills for manipulating small objects, clear speaking voice, good vision and hearing, the ability to focus on multiple tasks simultaneously, and sometimes the need to move quickly to respond to student needs. Staff require the ability to work in a high-energy environment with varying noise levels (from quiet to loud) based on student activity. Staff is expected to work both indoors and outdoors (as needed) and may be expected to participate in off-site field experiences.
