Primary Purpose:
Assists with the Social Services component within Head Start guidelines. Works directly with parents interested in enrolling their child (ren) and/ or enrolled in the program. This position assists in recruiting, enrolling, attendance, and family partnership agreements.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High School Diploma (or equivalent)
Social Services Background (optional)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of city, state and federal social services programs
Ability to use computer and office-type software
Proficient typing, word processing, and file management skills
Experience:
Work with children and/or families
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Personal Effectiveness
1. Works cooperatively with parents, staff and students in a positive professional manner while performing daily work.
2. Treats children and co-workers in a fair and equitable manner.
3. Feels comfortable offering suggestions and ideas for effective operations of the Family/Community Partnership content area.
4. Willing to be part of a team striving to provide families with a positive Head Start experience.
Performance Effectiveness
5. Assists in the recruiting and enrolling of children including determination of eligibility, verification of age and income, onsite recruitment in local target areas, and distribution of information about the program.
6. Monitors absences of children and make home contacts or visits as necessary.
7. Provides direct services to families as needed maintaining appropriate documentation as required by Head Start Performance Standards.
8. Refer families to appropriate agencies as needed maintaining appropriate documentation as required by Head start Performance Standards.
9. Develops a Family Partnership Agreement for each family using the appropriate documentation.
10. Provides parents with updated information on available community services.
11. Maintains thorough, accurate documentation of all social services activities a required by Head Start Performance Standards.
12. Transports children and / or parents as needed.
13. Attends selected workshops and participates in activities in order to maintain a knowledge of current Head start practices and procedures concerning social services.
14. Input family and student data in the program designated management system.
Professional Effectiveness
15. Maintains contact with teachers in order to share relevant information concerning the child and /or family. Assures confidentiality is maintained for all students and families.
16. Assist parents with concerns about their children.
17. Collaborate with community agencies to help meet the needs of the Head Start families served.
18. Participate in professional organizations
19. Attend professional workshops and classes
20. Develop professional skills appropriate to job assignment including a Family Service Worker credential.
**The State Board for Educator Certification will require all first time applicants for an initial credential to be fingerprinted as part of a national criminal background check. A cost of up to $49. 00 will be charged for fingerprinting.
