Job Description

Capital Area Head Start is seeking a full time Center Director to join our mission of making a difference in the lives of children, empowering parents, and strengthening families.

The Center Director manages daily operations of an assigned center and ensures quality services for children and families. This position supervises and supports staff in the delivery of developmentally appropriate education, ensures the health and wellbeing of children, encourages family engagement, and collects data to monitor program operations.

Head Start Center Directors work 10 months out of the year and enjoy summers off while earning a minimum of $21.48 per hour. Schedules are based according to the school year and include 1616 work hours. Educational Qualifications (One of the following):

  • Associate’s degree in early childhood education
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in early childhood education or related field with at least 18 credits in early childhood education ( Please include a copy of transcript if degree is in a related field)
  • Valid PA N/K teaching certification

Additional Qualifications:

  • Supervisory/leadership experience
  • Experience in home centered education, family services or parent education
  • Demonstrated knowledge of early childhood development and developmentally appropriate practice
  • Intermediate computer skills, ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and learn web based systems
  • Valid driver’s license and access to properly insured vehicle, or public transportation
  • Successful completion of pre-employment process, including Criminal History, MVR, Child Abuse and FBI clearances
  • Passion, enthusiasm, creativity, and commitment to make a difference
  • Experience in Head Start or Early Head Start is preferred
