Job Description

POSITION: Head Start Academic Behavior Coach

LOCATION Itinerant

REPORTS TO Program Director/Building Administrator

SALARY: $25 per hour, two days per week.

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Professional Teaching certificate with experience in early childhood or elementary education
  • Experience in Head Start or other Federal Programs preferred
  • Criminal and other background checks per WV Code and Head Start regulations
  • The ability to perform the job duties and responsibilities of the position as contained in the Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Cooperates with building principal.
  • Develops a positive relationship with student body.
  • Develops a positive relationship with faculty.
  • Develops a positive relationship with parents and community.
  • Participates in activities that foster professional growth and development.
  • Follows purchasing procedures.
  • Complies with all applicable board of education,West Virginia Board of Education, state and federal laws and policies.
  • Assesses all education staff to identify strengths, areas of needed support, and which staff would benefit most from intensive coaching.
  • Provides opportunities for intensive coaching to those education staff identified through the process of the Braxton County Head Start coaching plan, including opportunities to be observed and receive feedback and modeling of effective teacher practices directly related to program performance goals.
  • Provides opportunities for education staff not identified for intensive coaching through the process of the Braxton County coaching plan to receive other forms of research-based professional development aligned with program performance goals.
  • Ensures intensive coaching opportunities for the staff identified through the coaching process that:
    • Align with the program's school readiness goals, curricula, and other approaches to professional development;
    • Provide ongoing communication between the coach, program director, education director, and any other relevant staff; and,
    • Establishes policies that ensure assessment results are not used to solely determine punitive actions for staff identified as needing support, without providing time and resources for staff to improve.
  • Provide observations and create a coaching plan with designated staff needing coaching.
  • Collaborate and attend trainings as needed as well as lead trainings.
  • Works with and plans family engagement activities.
  • Completed walk throughs and observations for classrooms and staff.
  • Works with Creative Curriculum.
  • Assists teachers with lesson plans and all academic support.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff members.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Most commonly, the educational setting is indoors with outdoor settings for recess and field trip activities. The noise level in the work environment is low to moderate (20-60 dB).
