Head Ranger

Base Location: Pitsford & Draycote Water

Permanent / Full Time / Salary from £35,200 per annum

Our Northamptonshire Parks encompassing Pitsford, Ravensthorpe and Hollowell Waters, in addition to Draycote Fishery in Warwickshire are looking for a practical, hands-on Head Ranger to join our team. This rare opportunity blends team leadership with active fieldwork – from maintaining facilities and delivering high-quality visitor experiences to supporting our renowned fisheries.

As Head Ranger, you’ll work in all weather – repairing, cleaning, patrolling, checking, and problem-solving – while inspiring your Rangers to deliver excellent customer service and maintaining the sites to the highest standard.

If you enjoy rolling up your sleeves, solving practical challenges, and leading by example, this role is for you.

What the role entails

Team Leadership:

  • Supervise and work alongside the Ranger team to keep our parks safe, clean, operational, and well-presented.

  • Schedule rota’s to ensure our parks and fisheries are staffed appropriately, plan and prioritise tasks and project work with the team.

  • Carry out and record health and safety checks, inspections, and maintenance tasks using digital and paper based systems.

  • Positively lead the team through periods of change or challenge, conduct performance reviews, and arrange training, team meetings and briefings.

Hands-on operations:

  • Help with everything from repairing and servicing facilities to groundskeeping, cleaning, and boat maintenance.

  • Keep equipment and tools in good working order.

  • Procure materials and equipment as required to complete tasks and keep infrastructure in good repair.

  • Ensure compliance of company safety policies and procedures.

Customer engagement:

  • Welcome and assist visitors and anglers on-site, answering questions and ensuring they have a great experience.

  • Ensure safety policies and park bylaws are communicated to our visitors and enforced when required.

  • Promote the Anglian Water brand and all our water parks.

Support events and activities:

  • Prepare and deliver park events, including setting up, practical logistics, and on-the-day support.

Teamwork:

  • Work closely with park management, on site café and retail teams in addition to onsite business partners to deliver high standards across the park.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Holds a full, valid driving licence.

  • Is passionate about our waters and everything we have to offer.

  • Enjoys physical work, outdoors in all seasons.

  • Brings strong hands-on maintenance and practical skills (e.g. general building & infrastructure repairs, boat & pontoon repairs, etc.).

  • Practical land and woodland management skills and experience.

  • Has proven team leadership skills and can motivate others by example.

  • Is a solution focussed problem solver.

  • Basic IT skills e.g. Microsoft Office packages including Word, Excel, and Outlook

  • Is customer-focused with a friendly, approachable manner.

  • Can work flexibly, tackling varied jobs each day.

As a valued member of the team, you are entitled to these fantastic benefits:

  • Private Health Care for you and your loved ones

  • 25 days Annual Leave Allowance

  • Company Induction, Uniform and Training

  • Free parking at all our water parks

  • Discounts across our water parks – including our Watersports Centre and Cafe’s

About Anglian Water Services

Anglian Water supply water and water recycling services to more than six million domestic and business customers in the east of England and Hartlepool. Our services are at the heart of every single family and community in our region. We clean water to the highest standard, deliver it to millions of homes, and carefully manage it to ensure it never runs out.

We’re the largest water and water recycling company in England and Wales by geographic area. We’re also one of the driest regions in the country, with just 600 millimetres of rain each year, on average a third less than the rest of England. In fact some areas have a lower annual rainfall than Jerusalem. That’s why it’s vital that we look after the water that we’ve got.
