Role

Northern Trust Asset Management (NTAM) is a trillion-dollar global investment manager dedicated to helping clients achieve their long-term investment objectives.

Reporting to the EMEA Chief Operating Officer, the Head of Third Party Oversight is responsible for leading NTAM’s Third-Party Risk Management (TPRM), Outsourcing Management, Intercompany Management, and Delegate Oversight activities across the EMEA region. The role will partner closely with Product, Distribution, Marketing, Technology, Operations, and other key stakeholders to implement NTAM’s global TPRM strategy and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.

The successful candidate will establish and enhance governance frameworks, risk oversight processes, and control environments relating to outsourced, delegated, and third-party arrangements. They will also support Senior Management Functions (SMFs) in meeting their responsibilities under the UK Senior Managers & Certification Regime (SM&CR), while driving operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead NTAM’s Third-Party Oversight function across Third-Party Risk Management, Intercompany Management, Outsourcing Oversight, and Delegate Oversight activities.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to assess current operating models and design future-state solutions that enhance efficiency, governance, digitisation, and automation.
  • Identify, assess, monitor, control, and report third-party risks to senior leadership and relevant governance committees.
  • Provide independent reporting of operational issues, ensuring appropriate escalation and communication to SMFs and senior management across regulated entities.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for clients and business partners, responding to enquiries and presenting NTAM’s third-party risk framework when required.
  • Develop, maintain, and oversee governance and control frameworks to ensure service delivery standards, performance monitoring, and ongoing effectiveness.
  • Lead and support complex business change initiatives, ensuring adherence to established change management standards.
  • Oversee change management processes with both internal stakeholders and external service providers.
  • Work closely with Compliance and Regulatory Change teams to maintain awareness of evolving regulatory requirements and assess their impact on third-party arrangements.
  • Strengthen the First Line of Defence (1LOD) through robust policies, procedures, controls, and a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Build, develop, and lead a high-performing team, ensuring strong succession planning and organisational resilience.
  • Conduct governance reviews, operational due diligence assessments, and investment operations reviews across outsourced and delegated arrangements.
  • Oversee periodic reviews of third-party relationships, including service agreements, SLAs, KPIs, and commercial arrangements, to ensure continued suitability and effectiveness.
  • Develop and maintain policies, processes, and controls aligned with regulatory expectations and industry best practices.
  • Drive global solutions and consistency across regions while addressing local regulatory and business requirements.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience within the investment management industry, including experience in third-party risk management, outsourcing oversight, vendor governance, or operational risk.
  • Strong knowledge of global regulatory requirements relating to third-party risk management, particularly FCA and Central Bank of Ireland (CBI) expectations.
  • Experience designing and implementing third-party risk frameworks, governance models, risk assessment methodologies, and reporting processes.
  • Knowledge of UCITS, AIFs, MiFID products, and the operating models of management companies and delegated service providers.
  • Experience with third-party risk management platforms such as Coupa, ServiceNow, Interos, Cybeta, or similar tools.
  • Broad understanding of investment products, asset classes, and investment strategies.
