Job Description

Fidelity Digital Coach - Head of Technology

Fidelity Labs is building a new generation of enterprise AI products embedded in customer‑facing experiences across Fidelity’s businesses. We are seeking a senior engineering leader to serve as the technical and organizational owner of the Fidelity Digital Coach—a foundational product and infrastructure enabling safe, scalable, and compliant conversational AI capabilities for millions of customers.

This role combines hands‑on technical leadership, platform architecture ownership, and engineering organization building You will define the technical direction of the product and platform, build and lead a high‑caliber engineering team, and partner closely with product, legal, compliance, security, and executive leadership to bring AI capabilities into production responsibly.

You will operate with significant autonomy, clear decision rights within the platform domain, and executive‑level visibility. Your work will directly shape how conversational AI is designed, governed, and deployed.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver the Fidelity Digital Coach

  • Own the engineering execution of integrating Digital Coach functionality into FidelityGo

  • Build the AI infrastructure to support conversational UXs

Platform and Technical Strategy

  • Own the architecture and technical direction of the conversational AI platform supporting Digital Coach and later multiple products and business lines.

  • Make durable technology decisions that balance performance, extensibility, safety, and regulatory requirements.

  • Establish core platform primitives for AI interaction, governance, integration, and observability.

Engineering Leadership

  • Build, scale, and lead a high‑performing engineering organization.

  • Define team structure, hiring standards, and operating culture.

  • Remain hands‑on where it matters most, while designing systems and teams that scale beyond individual ownership.

Enterprise Integration and Execution

  • Partner with other technology teams to integrate Coach platform capabilities into existing systems and products.

  • Drive delivery discipline across a complex, multi‑stakeholder environment.

  • Escalate and resolve cross‑organizational issues that impact Coach’s success.

Production and Operational Excellence

  • Own production readiness and reliability for Coach and its services.

  • Set standards for availability, incident response, and operational hygiene.

  • Ensure the Coach platform evolves safely from early releases to broad adoption.

Executive Communication and Accountability

  • Provide clear, concise progress reporting to senior leadership.

  • Communicate risks, tradeoffs, and milestones with transparency and precision.

What Success Looks Like

  • A production‑grade AI suite supporting multiple customer‑facing use cases.

  • A strong, autonomous engineering organization with clear ownership and delivery velocity.

  • Automated governance and compliance embedded into the development lifecycle.

  • Platform adoption expanding across additional products and business areas.

  • A technical foundation designed to scale with increased usage, complexity, and regulatory scrutiny.

The Expertise and Skills You Bring

You bring 12 years of software engineering experience, including 5 years leading engineering teams. Your expertise lies in crafting low-latency distributed systems, hands-on experience with LLMs, fundamental log management architectures, and navigating compliance in regulated industries. You've hired and managed teams of 15 engineers and possess deep AWS knowledge. Your ability to make high-stakes technical decisions with incomplete information and document outcomes is outstanding. A BS/MS or equivalent experience in Computer Science is required, with an advanced degree or equivalent experience in ML/AI research as a plus. Your proven track record in building systems from scratch sets you apart!
