
Jefferies Tax department is seeking a senior tax accounting leader to head the Tax Accounting and Reporting function for a large, publicly traded investment bank and broker-dealer. This role will lead the quarterly and annual income tax provision process under ASC 740, oversee income tax disclosures for external reporting, and have responsibility for the federal income tax return. The position is hybrid in New York and reports to the Global Head of Tax.
Key Responsibilities:
Tax Provision, Reporting & Disclosures (ASC 740)
• Manage and own the quarterly and year-end global income tax provision process including consolidated effective tax rate management and income tax accruals in accordance with ASC 740. Oversee the preparation of all income tax disclosures and related footnotes for consolidated and separate entity reporting, including support for Forms 10-Q and 10-K and other regulatory filings.
• Lead the quarterly tax forecasting process and partner with Finance stakeholders to align forecast assumptions.
• Serve as key contact for income tax accounting matters across Finance (Controllers, Accounting Policy, External Reporting, FP&A, Treasury, etc.) and work directly with external auditors on tax accounting matters.
• Responsible for the maintenance and tracking of the global deferred tax inventory.
• Maintain a strong internal control environment over tax accounting and reporting processes, including Sarbanes-Oxley documentation and control ownership.
Federal Corporate Income Tax Return
• Lead the preparation and filing process for the U.S. federal corporate tax return including quarterly estimates and extension calculations.
Technical Tax, Policy & Business Support
• Evaluate new business issues and the related financial accounting treatment to ensure the appropriate tax accounting treatment, including identifying and resolving book vs. tax differences.
• Assess proposed and enacted tax law changes; perform research, quantify impacts, and draft clear memoranda for management on financial statement and cash tax implications.
Audit, Exams & Controls
• Effectively manage tax exams by coordinating with auditors. This includes preparing written and verbal responses or protests as well as documentation for submission to the various taxing authorities to support the positions taken on filed tax returns..
Leadership
• Lead, mentor and develop team members; create a high-performance culture with strong technical rigor, accountability, and continuous process improvement.
• Participate in special projects and other initiatives as needed.
• This role oversees SALT and international compliance activities performed by internal resources and/or external service providers.
Qualifications & Experience
• 10+ years of experience in a large public accounting firm and/or large publicly traded corporation (financial services strongly preferred).
• Deep knowledge of U.S. federal income tax concepts and tax accounting under ASC 740; demonstrated ability to apply technical guidance to complex, real-world transactions.
• Proven ability to manage multiple workstreams and meet tight internal/external deadlines (quarter close and SEC reporting cadence).
• Strong executive-level communication skills (written and verbal), including ability to draft technical memos and present conclusions clearly to senior stakeholders.
• Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Accounting.

Primary Location Full Time Salary Range of $200,000 - $250,000.
