We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Head of Tax to lead the tax function supporting our Management Company business across Luxembourg fund structures, including UCITS, AIFs and alternative investment strategies. This is a senior leadership role responsible for tax governance, oversight, compliance, advisory support and transformation of the tax operating model.

The successful candidate will act as the primary point person for complex tax matters, provide technical leadership to the tax team, and work closely with portfolio management teams, conducting officers, fund managers, clients, external advisors, administrators and internal stakeholders to ensure robust tax risk management, high-quality client service and scalable delivery of tax support across the ManCo platform.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor and develop a team of tax professionals, fostering a high-performance, collaborative and client-focused culture.

  • Define, review and implement the target operating model for efficient, scalable and well-controlled tax services across the ManCo platform.

  • Act as the primary point of contact and escalation lead for tax matters affecting funds, clients, portfolio assets and internal stakeholders.

  • Provide technical guidance on Luxembourg and cross-border tax matters impacting investment funds, fund regimes, investors and underlying portfolio structures.

  • Support portfolio management teams, fund managers and client-facing teams during fund launches, onboarding of new assets, subscriptions, restructurings and other strategic initiatives.

  • Oversee and coordinate annual tax return preparation, tax reporting and other tax compliance obligations with external tax advisors, administrators and service providers.

  • Manage client, fund manager and internal stakeholder expectations on tax-related matters, providing clear, practical and commercially balanced advice.

  • Ensure timely completion of tax compliance obligations and maintain appropriate oversight of tax deliverables, controls, service providers and regulatory requirements.

  • Oversee VAT, corporate income tax, net wealth tax, withholding tax and other relevant fund and entity-level tax matters.

  • Identify tax risks, governance gaps and process improvements, ensuring appropriate escalation, remediation and continuous improvement.

  • Ensure effective allocation and utilisation of resources within the tax team, balancing technical quality, operational efficiency and business priorities.

  • Build strong relationships with clients, advisors, service providers and internal stakeholders, acting as a trusted senior tax partner to the business.

  • Lead tax transformation initiatives, including workflow redesign, automation, data quality improvements and AI-enabled solutions to enhance control, scalability and client service.

  • Review and implement workflows and AI-enabled solutions to improve efficiency, governance and scalability.

Requirements

  • Qualified tax professional with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, ideally within asset management, fund administration, a ManCo, Big Four or another international financial services environment; Expert-Comptable qualification would be an advantage.

  • Strong knowledge of Luxembourg fund regimes and the Luxembourg and German tax environment; broader international tax knowledge would be an advantage.

  • Solid experience with VAT, corporate income tax, net wealth tax, withholding tax, tax reporting and fund-related tax compliance matters.

  • Proven leadership and people management experience, with the ability to develop talent and lead through change.

  • Ability to analyse complex tax matters and translate technical considerations into practical, risk-aware and commercially balanced recommendations.

  • Strong governance mindset, attention to detail, accuracy and organisational discipline.

  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication and influencing skills, with the confidence to engage with senior management, clients, boards, advisors and service providers.

  • Demonstrated ability to drive transformation, including process optimisation, tax technology, workflow tools, data management and AI-enabled solutions.

  • Strong knowledge of tax-related software and digital transformation initiatives.

  • Fluent in English; French, German or other European languages would be considered an asset.

  • Strong IT skills, including MS Office and other relevant tax, fund administration, data and workflow technology tools.
