STMicroelectronics Malta is seeking a skilled and motivated Head of Sustainability to join our Central Construction Facility Services team.
The job requires a visionary leader—integrating EHS management systems into a broader culture of innovation and creativity that redefines our environmental and social impact. The prospective candidate will be a primary culture-shaper, utilizing ideation and "creativity boosters" to enhance the employee experience while ensuring technical and regulatory excellence supporting the sustainability targets and long-term vision of STMicroelectronics.
Duties & Responsibilities
The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Strategic Initiatives: Lead flagship programs focusing on Carbon Neutrality, Water Reclaim, and Biodiversity Management
- Facility Design: Oversee the integration of Environmental Impact Assessments and material flow designs for site expansions (e.g., KK3).
- Green Energy & Innovation: Drive the transition toward Green Energy integration and lead the Plastic Elimination and Zero to Landfill (UL2799) programs.
- Site Ownership: Take responsibility for the Environmental Programme of the site, ensuring all ecological targets are hit.
- Program Leadership: Formulate and organize Corporate programs for Sustainability, Environment, Energy, and HSPM.
- QMS & Certification: Maintain and achieve a robust suite of certifications including ISO 14001, 45001, 14064, 14076, 50001 and RBA.
- Compliance & Audit: Coordinate internal/external audits, manage environmental permits, and ensure 100% legal compliance across waste management, chemical purchasing, and permitted operations.
- Governance: Manage the EHS, Energy, and Sustainability Steering Committee (meeting at least 4x annually) and set annual objectives.
- Capital Investment & Strategy: Review future investments and new equipment procurement to ensure technical compliance and zero adverse environmental impact.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the interface between CSR and local management; develop partnerships with community and educational institutions.
- Training & Awareness: Develop site-wide training plans to ensure all staff—including subcontractors—understand their roles in environmental, safety and energy performance.
- Legal Liaison: Will be the main reference for managing authority inspections and participating in legal procedures regarding sustainability regulations.
- Management Systems: Will be managing EHS and Energy management systems, including internal audit programs and legal compliance evaluation. Support and manage management system activities, ensuring strict adherence to Environment, Energy and other sustainability standards
- System Ownership: Support and manage a robust suite of systems including ISO 14001, 45001, 14064, 14067 and 50001, ensuring documentation control and audit readiness.
- Certification Excellence: Maintain and achieve certifications with a primary focus on the Responsible Business Alliance (RBA) framework.
- Operational Excellence: Manage the Waste Management System (WMS), MSDS repository, and the Codification process to drive continuous improvement.
- Chemical Management: Directly oversee the Chemical Master List, Automated Chemical Management System development, and the Chemical Reduction Plan
- Risk & Permitting: Manage legilative permits, includiung Environmental Permits, REWS secondary storage, Sewer Discharge Permits, and ADR compliance
- Technical Monitoring: Supervise pollution monitoring (Air, Water, Noise) and ensure the maintenance of critical infrastructure like LPG installations and WWTP systems
- Regulatory Reporting: Lead high-accuracy data collection for CSRD, EU Taxonomy, and Climate Action Authority using platforms like ENABLON Perform high-accuracy data collection for CSRD, EU Taxonomy, and Corporate/CCFS requirements.
- Financial Control: Prepare and manage budgets for sustainability programs, evaluating ROI and the environmental impact of capital investments.
- Community & STEM: Act as the interface for local community events (EHS Week and sustainability events) and educational partnerships, including the STEM program
- Training: Develop site-wide training plans for employees and subcontractors to foster a culture of environmental stewardship.
Skills and Qualifications
- Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's Degree in the fields of general environmental studies, and/or chemistry.
- Proven Experience: Significant background in managing large-scale engineering programs within an industrial or corporate setting. A significant background in Chemical Science, Engineering, or Environmental Management will be considered an asset.
- Technical Compliance: Hands-on experience with chemical and hazardous substance substances.
- Financial Literacy: Experience in budget preparation for sustainability programs and evaluating the ROI/impact of capital investments.
- Chemical & Risk Mastery: Extensive experience in chemical lifecycle management and the delivery of complex risk assessments
- Leadership: A proven track record in people leadership, with the ability to manage diverse teams and influence external partners.
- Continuous Improvement: Demonstrated experience spearheading business improvement programs (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma, or data-driven operational initiatives) that successfully optimize processes that improve performance and results.
- Creative Mindset: A passion for fostering innovation and enhancing the workplace through creative problem-solving and employee ideation. Cultivate an environment of "thinking outside the box" by integrating creativity boosters into daily operations.
