Job Description

The Head of Supply Chain for Fujifilm Biotechnologies California’s cell therapy contract development and manufacturing facility is responsible for oversight of the GMP warehouse, raw material planning, procurement, storage, packaging, clinical/commercial distribution, global logistics, and ERP system administration. This role has accountability for ensuring availability of materials and intermediates to support delivery of the site’s production plans to support client’s clinical and commercial supply of cell-based therapeutics. The Head of Supply Chain will own the strategic plan for the supply chain department including budget, staffing, training, policies and procedures, continuous improvement, compliance and safety. The role is responsible for ensuring excellent execution including tactical oversight of day-to-day operations. The Supply Chain department includes warehouse operations, product packing, planning, procurement, global logistics, and ERP business process ownership, with a span of control of approximately 25 staff members. The role will be a member of the Site Leadership Team.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that supply chain functional objectives/plans are executed in a timely and cost-effective manner
  • Provide tactical and strategic leadership to the Supply Chain department to ensure delivery of all products in a timely, compliant, and fiscally responsible fashion
  • Continually develop safe practices and ensure a safe work environment
  • Utilize Operational Excellence tools to facilitate continuous improvement
  • Demonstrate organizational leadership to facilitate the success of all supporting departments
  • Provide ongoing technical and problem-solving support to Operations and Quality
  • Implement daily, weekly, and monthly KPIs utilizing standard and customized metrics and analysis to demonstrate efficiency, productivity, and profitability
  • Work closely with Program Management, S&OP, Quality, Manufacturing, QC, MSAT and New Product Introduction to ensure success of the operation
  • As part of the Site Leadership Team, develop Strategic plans, address site needs and support the communication plan
  • Guide the assessment of equipment, systems, and capacity needs to support future demands and capabilities
  • Build, develop, lead, coach, and retain staff with the goal of meeting/exceeding goals
  • Perform other duties, as needed by the business
  • Travel approximately 15%

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Life Sciences, Engineering, or related discipline
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in regulated pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry
  • Minimum 10 years of leadership with prior experience at the senior/executive leadership level preferred
  • Experience managing supply chain operations including planning, raw material sourcing and procurement, vendor management, GMP material storage and management, cold chain management, global logistics, and related business continuity
  • Detailed operational experience with ERP systems
  • Experience in CDMO business preferred
  • Operational understanding of cell therapy process and material requirements, including time sensitive vein to vein management of final labeled drug product

Demonstrated Experience:

  • Experienced functional leader with excellent people management skills and proven ability to develop talent to achieve results through teamwork and leadership of others
  • Strong leadership and communication skills and a demonstrated ability to develop constructive and effective relationships with direct reports, colleagues, and executive leadership
  • Skills in Operational Excellence with a mindset for continuous improvement, innovation, and problem solving
  • Strong ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Knowledge of Technology Transfer, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Facility Design and Maintenance, and Engineering
  • Extensive knowledge of cGMP’s, ATMP guidelines, and the product commercialization lifecycle
  • Demonstrated track record of successful GMP compliance and operational execution

Work Environment:

This position operates in an office setting but also requires occasional entrance into a GMP facility, which is governed by regulatory agencies for which there are specific requirements for hygiene and acceptable clothing. Also requires entrance in to warehouse spaces that has specific requirements for personal protective equipment. The work environment is typical of a professional office role, with most of the time spent sitting at a desk, using a computer, and attending meetings.

Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. May require standing, walking, and moving around office. May require occasional work in a warehouse environment. May require on-site presence during weekends and holidays in alignment with company Policies. Period travel between sites, to attend professional conferences, or to visit clients may be required.
