Our GCIO organisation plays a critical role for the bank. This team partners with the businesses to build the platforms, systems, and products that our customers use every day. We keep people’s money and data safe, and are at the forefront of driving innovation for our businesses, customers, and colleagues.

We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Head of Strategic Delivery.

Role purpose

Securities Services (SSv) is a profitable, scalable, capital-light business at the heart of the Group’s transaction banking, institutional client and wealth ambitions. SSv Technology is a 1,000+ strong global engineering organisation partnering with SSv and colleagues across HSBC to deliver resilient, secure and industry-leading technology services.

The Head of Strategic Delivery steers SSv Technology’s delivery agenda—translating strategic intent into a clear set of priorities, executable plans and measurable outcomes. The role provides direction and oversight for the mobilisation and execution of complex initiatives that cut across value streams, domains and geographies. Success requires strong judgement across business priorities, architecture and digital capabilities, with the ability to bring clarity and pace in ambiguous, multi-stakeholder environments.

A key focus is embedding production stability into strategic delivery, to ensure changes land safely and services remain resilient, secure and performant through disciplined engineering controls.

This role is the operational and strategic anchor for SSv Technology-wide priorities, ensuring the organisation focuses on what matters most. It also acts as a trusted strategic sounding board to the SSv Technology CIO—bringing a whole-organisation view, connecting insights across the portfolio, and ensuring leadership intent translates into clear decisions, aligned execution and sustained delivery momentum.

Key responsibilities

Strategy, planning and outcomes

  • Set and drive the strategic delivery direction for SSv Technology, translating business priorities into executable, outcome-based plans.
  • Lead delivery and execution of large, complex, business-critical initiatives spanning multiple sub-value streams and organisational constructs.
  • Define clear objectives, key results and measurable outcomes, ensuring delivery plans are outcome-led and performance is transparent.
  • Orchestrate delivery across business, operations, architecture and engineering to ensure the right conversations happen at the right time—resolving ambiguity and accelerating decisions.
  • Ensure digital assets roadmaps remain aligned with core / traditional platforms and operational realities.

CIO advisory and organisational alignment

  • Act as a trusted strategic sounding board to the SSv Technology CIO, providing options, recommendations and clear points of view on priorities, sequencing and trade-offs.
  • Maintain a “whole organisation” view of SSv Technology (people, capabilities, delivery health, risks, dependencies, operating model and stakeholders) to support fast, well-informed decisions.
  • Provide early-warning insight by identifying emerging issues, delivery frictions, control gaps or capability constraints; surface them clearly and propose pragmatic mitigations.
  • Coordinate the leadership narrative and communications (internally and with key partners), ensuring messaging is consistent, timely and connected to outcomes and strategy.

Strategic initiatives front door for the organisation

  • Operate the strategic initiatives pipeline for SSv Technology: intake, prioritisation, dependency mapping, resourcing approach and mobilisation.
  • Mobilise and govern SSv Technology-wide initiatives, establishing fit-for-purpose governance and driving execution to measurable outcomes.
  • Provide leadership and support for APAC-based strategic initiatives and NDA projects.

Governance, controls and delivery excellence

  • Champion strong engineering controls and enterprise technology practices to ensure delivery is resilient, secure and compliant.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve delivery practices, driving a culture of continuous improvement across the technology organisation.
  • Promote open, collaborative engineering practices and pragmatic ways of working across globally distributed teams.

takeholder leadership and influence

  • Represent SSv Technology in key senior forums with business, operations, architecture and other partners.
  • Lead stakeholder engagement on behalf of technology, communicating progress, risks, dependencies and outcomes clearly and credibly.
  • Build consensus across competing priorities, while constructively challenging where needed.

People leadership

  • Provide inclusive, high-impact leadership to teams and leaders across the delivery organisation.
  • Build a high-performance culture focused on accountability, collaboration, innovation and delivery at pace.

Skills, experience and capabilities

Essential experience

  • Proven track record mobilising and leading strategic change and/or technology delivery in a complex, multinational environment.
  • Demonstrated experience shaping technology and solution architecture in partnership with architects and engineering teams—balancing strategic alignment, non-functional requirements (resilience, security, scalability) and delivery pragmatism.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively with senior sponsors and stakeholders across business and technology.
  • Experience leading delivery across multiple teams, locations and methodologies, including remote development teams.

Essential knowledge and capabilities

  • Deep knowledge of the Securities Services business.
  • Strong understanding of engineering controls and modern enterprise technology practices.
  • Strong strategic judgement: ability to make key decisions in consultation with diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Clear, concise communication skills, with the ability to translate complexity into clear, plain language for senior audiences.
  • Strong relationship management, networking and influencing skills.

Personal attributes

  • Technology-minded strategic leader with an execution mindset—bias to action, pace and outcomes.
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity; able to create clarity and structure across complex stakeholder environments.
  • Highly credible, calm under pressure and naturally curious—connects dots across topics and spots patterns early.
