As the engineering organization scales from its founding team toward a larger platform organization, they're looking for a technical leader to define the architecture that will power every layer of the product.

As the Head of Software Architecture, you'll own the end-to-end software architecture spanning cloud infrastructure, robotics connectivity, AI systems, fleet management, data pipelines, and frontend applications. You'll remain deeply hands-on while establishing technical direction, making foundational architecture decisions, and growing a world-class engineering organization.

What You'll Do

• Own the end-to-end architecture across cloud infrastructure, robotics connectivity, fleet management, AI systems, and frontend applications
• Design scalable distributed systems supporting large fleets of connected robotic devices
• Architect communication between edge devices, cloud infrastructure, and real-time applications
• Design AI-native platform architecture supporting agentic robotics workflows and intelligent automation
• Build highly reliable SaaS infrastructure supporting enterprise robotics deployments
• Design APIs, event-driven systems, messaging infrastructure, and real-time communication frameworks
• Architect data pipelines supporting robotics telemetry, learning systems, and AI model integration
• Drive technical direction across frontend, backend, infrastructure, and robotics software
• Stay hands-on writing production code while reviewing architecture across the engineering organization
• Establish engineering standards, architecture review processes, and software development best practices
• Mentor and grow a high-performing engineering team as the organization scales
• Partner closely with the CTO, research scientists, and product leadership on long-term technical strategy

Ideal Candidate Background

Experience Requirements

• 8–12 years of software engineering experience
• Experience owning platform architecture across distributed software systems
• Experience architecting SaaS platforms managing connected hardware or IoT devices
• Experience operating at Staff or Principal Engineer level
• Experience leading architecture across multiple engineering teams
• Experience working at robotics, IoT, connected device, autonomous systems, or hardware-software companies
• Strong startup ownership mentality with demonstrated technical leadership
• Experience serving as an early architecture leader at startup or growth-stage companies
• Experience mentoring senior engineers while remaining highly hands-on
• Previous experience scaling engineering organizations strongly preferred

Technical Requirements

• Expert-level distributed systems architecture
• Strong backend engineering and systems design expertise
• Experience designing cloud-native SaaS platforms
• Strong API architecture and real-time communication systems knowledge
• Experience with WebSockets, Pub/Sub, gRPC, event-driven architectures, or messaging systems
• Strong understanding of IoT, edge computing, connected devices, or robotics platforms
• Experience designing highly scalable cloud infrastructure
• Familiarity with AI agents, LLMs, multi-agent systems, or agentic AI workflows
• Strong coding ability with continued hands-on engineering experience
• Experience architecting systems spanning cloud, edge devices, frontend, and infrastructure

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or another technical discipline preferred
• Strong engineering background with demonstrated software architecture expertise
• Top technical universities or exceptional engineering accomplishments strongly preferred
