We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as Head of Retail Lending Policy and Assurance.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Acting as the strategic bridge between vision and operation, the Head of Credit Policy and Assurance is responsible for translating HSBC’s credit strategy into actionable policy frameworks. The role ensures the disciplined execution of the bank’s risk appetite by defining precise tolerance levels for both traditional and complex financing, enabling sustainable business growth through expert governance.

Role holders will carry out activities that will include most of the following:

• Directly influencing the operational effectiveness of the functional/functional unit by ensuring frameworks serve as a dynamic engine for strategy execution.
• Co-ordinating and managing large, moderately complex projects/assignments, bridging the gap between regulatory requirements and business agility.
• Exercising full management responsibility for a high-performing team, including objective setting and performance management
• Supporting decisions through advice, counsel or services in area of specialisation
• Accountable for delivery against prescribed targets, budgets and resourcing and responsible for volume, quality, and timeliness of end results
• Acting as initial point of escalation for team members
• Adhering to and actively supporting established policies and procedures in own team
• Supporting change initiatives and embed change initiatives within own team

Impact on the Business/Function

• Lead the full lifecycle development, maintenance and optimization of credit policies/ frameworks for all Vietnam retail lending products, ensuring alignment with business strategy and regulatory requirements
• Optimize credit policy in order to maximize profit as well as controlling losses within AOP
• Provide strategic risk stewardship by overseeing business/ underwriting/ collections activities, developing robust frameworks and monitoring performance across retail lending
• Maintain a comprehensive grasp of local retail business strategies, lending environment, and regulatory changes, proactively incorporating them into policies to ensure adherence to local regulations and group standards while supporting business growth
• Act as key liaison between the risk team, sales and operations, providing expert advice on credit policies and procedures to drive informed business decisions
• Ensure there is a deep understanding of local regulations and Group/Regional policies and implement changes to comply as required

Customers / Stakeholders

• Determine policy execution strategy in order to maximize customer service without compromising credit standard
• Maintain strong relationships and collaborate effectively with other Risk stewards, FLOD functions and external stakeholders (e.g SBV, third party vendors)
• Support the portfolio management team with credit strategy development, deep dives, policy optimization for enhanced portfolio performance

Leadership & Teamwork

• Manage projects to develop recommendations for credit policy.
• Lead and develop an effective team through communication, performance management, development plans, and reward/recognition practices.

Operational Effectiveness & Control:

• Liaise between the risk team and operations or other support functions to develop a significant understanding of business and strategic objectives, offer suggestions or alternatives to solve technical/operational problems.
• Support risk steward responsibilities for retail credit risks, ensuring that assurance work is conducted with the necessary rigor, maintaining the quality and safety of the retail lending portfolio.
• Ensure the reporting of requested credit information to ASP Risk

Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum 7-10 years’ experience in risk management
• Excellent analytical abilities to grasp the key points from complicated details.
• Understanding of the Vietnam lending market, including risks and opportunities
• Strong knowledge of credit risk, and understanding of operational risk
• High risk awareness and control level
• Effective communication and report writing skills.
• Good negotiation skills with customer-oriented attitude.
• Ability to effectively manage a team
