Job Description

This role is crucial for ensuring MMC is seen as a responsible investor and corporate citizen, capable of pursuing its business objectives without impediment. The role will also liaise with internal and external resources to lead the Public relations (PR) and communication for the OpCo. The role leads teams across the below two sub functions:

  • Regulatory affairs

  • Public relation

  • Public Policy

  • corporate communications,

  • stakeholder management,

  • Corporate Social Responsibility

The role entails working under the guidance of Group GM Legal & Regulatory Affairs, and maintains regular liaison with Group Fintech Legal & Regulatory team

The Senior Manager Corporate Affairs reports to MMC CEO and is supported by Specialists.

Staff Leadership and Management

  • Source, induct and manage talent in accordance with legislative guidelines and directives from the CEO/Group

  • Continually develop a culture of strong collaboration and effective team working

  • Ensure open communication channels with staff and implement change management interventions when required, and under supervision from the CEO

  • Provide definition of roles, responsibilities, individual goals and performance objectives for the team

  • Set KPIs and provide regular performance feedback through a well-defined and implemented performance review program

  • Assist in the development and implementation of a training plan in order to build and develop skills within the team

  • Performance manage resources in accordance with HR policy and legislation where necessary

  • Promote a ‘Fintech centric’ and ‘partnership approach’ to develop strong relationships with other working groups and ensure adherence to Group governance

  • Coach and mentor direct reports to ensure high performance and staff motivation.

  • Identify staff training and development needs and implement necessary actions.

Operational Delivery

Functional Leadership:

As the functional leader of the Corporate Affairs vertical, the role is accountable to:

  • Align the results of the Corporate Affairs vertical, collectively and as individual work areas in the OpCo, ensuring that the Group guidelines are duly complied with

  • Measure the impact and benefit of the function to OpCo and in turn, Group FinCo and report the true-value metrics. Drive continuous improvement across all verticals

Delivery Leadership:

As the delivery leader of the Corporate Affairs vertical, the role is accountable for the following work area outcomes:

Strategy & Analytics, Budgeting, Data and Reporting

  • Implement & execute policies, procedures and guidelines set forth by group Legal & Regulatory team and ensure the team complies with the same

  • Implement governance to manage the consolidated OpCo Corporate Affairs strategy, budgets and financials, under direction from the OpCo CEO

  • Cascade the Group Fintech budget, analytics and reporting framework in the function, under direction from the OpCo CEO

  • Deliver results under the guidance of the Group GM Legal & regulatory Affairs, abiding by all the set directives and regularly reporting compliance

Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and implement corporate communications and stakeholder engagement strategies.

  • Define and execute MMC's social responsibility strategy.

  • Prepare and manage the annual Corporate Affairs work plan.

Corporate Affairs

  • Implement & Manage the Corporate Affairs and PR guidelines as defined by Group Finco

  • Strengthen brand reputation in the external market and among key stakeholders through relationship building & collaboration on community building initiatives

  • Oversee all PR & external communication activities and ensure business positive messages are sent out in the external market

  • Other tasks and duties, as assigned

Stakeholder Management:

  • Build and maintain relationships with governmental and administrative authorities, media, associations, and communities.

  • Proactively manage stakeholders' expectations and develop strong relationships with key influencers.

  • Influence Banking policy through ethical lobbying and partnerships with government and key stakeholders.

Corporate Communication:

  • Ensure the company's mission, programs, products, services, achievements, and performance are consistently presented positively to relevant stakeholders.

  • Manage corporate communication crises and formulate effective responses.

Public Relations:

  • Monitor and analyze the political, economic, and social climate to anticipate potential impacts on the organization.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR):

  • Coordinate and manage CSR initiatives and programs that enhance the company's reputation and contribute to community welfare.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards related to corporate governance and transparency.

Regulatory

  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements by regularly deep diving and assessing opCo’s performance on key regulations

  • Serve as primary contact with regulators, planning and executing successful regulatory agency meetings and engagements, where required, involve CEO in leading strategic meetings

  • Execute strategy for all regulatory submissions, license compliance and product approvals, inclusive lead the preparation, review and completion of documents for regulatory submission

  • Monitor and report to Management status of the Company's compliance to all laws of Country, policies, best practice and processes

  • Provide input, when required, in the Company strategy for ensuring future compliance and mitigation of risk i.e. Material legislations, fines and reporting requirements for various regulators

Education:

  • Minimum of 4-year tertiary degree in Communications, Public Relations, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Master of Communications, Public Relations, Business Administration, Law or relevant master’s degree is advantageous

  • Relevant certification / accreditation / membership with professional body as required

  • Strong network of media contacts and experience in corporate communications and government relations.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 to 8 years of experience in corporate affairs, public relations in a similar position with at least 3 years in a managerial role

  • Experience in Fintech, banking or financial services is preferred

  • Experience in defining and executing legal and regulatory affairs strategies, policies, and frameworks in a scalable/large scale Financial Services and/or Consumer Finance multi-country environment

  • Considerable exposure and participation in negotiations and drafting of highly complex transactions documents (locally and internationally)

  • Experience working in a global/multinational enterprise with a good understanding emerging market
