Job Description

Create your best future and join Westpac as a Head of Property Risk

What’s the role?

As Head of Property Risk, you’ll lead a specialist team that’s genuinely different in the Australian banking landscape. This team sits in the first line and is embedded directly in deal teams, working alongside relationship managers and credit partners from the outset, not reviewing transactions after the fact.

You’ll lead and develop a team of property and construction risk specialists supporting Westpac’s Business & Wealth Division, while remaining hands-on in complex transactions. You’ll be involved early in opportunities, attending customer meetings, visiting sites, reviewing valuations and shaping credit submissions with practical, real world property insight.

Beyond day-to-day deal activity, you’ll partner with the National Head of Property Risk on strategic and Groupwide initiatives, contributing to governance, industry engagement and market thought leadership.

This is a permanent, full‑time role ideally based in Sydney, supporting a team Australia wide.

What do I need?

This is a leadership role for someone who wants to shape the future. You’ll be a change agent with the capability and ambition to step into broader leadership over time.

You’ll bring:

  • Deep experience in property, valuation or real estate risk, with exposure to live transactions.
  • Strong people leadership capability, improving how teams operate and add value and provide coaching for future leaders.
  • The credibility and judgement to operate as a senior voice at the deal table, influencing outcomes early.
  • Strategic thinking, with the ability to balance hands-on deal involvement with longer term priorities.
  • Aspiration and readiness to grow into a broader enterprise leadership role as part of long-term succession planning.

Why join us?

We’re obsessed with becoming our customers' #1 banking partner for life and we’re looking for people who are passionate about helping us achieve that goal. In return, we’re committed to making Westpac the best place to work in the country. Here are just a few of the ways we’re already doing that:

  • Special offers on banking products and discounts from top brands, including generous employee-only mortgage rates!
  • Flexible work arrangements to help you achieve a greater work/life balance, and a variety of leave options including Culture, Lifestyle and Wellbeing leave.
  • Tailored learning and development opportunities to help your grow your career within the bank.
  • Lots of opportunities to ‘give back’ to the Community by getting involved in our many volunteering initiatives.
