Our client is a globally renowned multinational food manufacturer behind some of the world's most iconic and beloved household brands spanning convenient meals, shelf-stable culinary solutions, and premium snacks. Operating their regional Asia-Pacific manufacturing hub in Selangor, the facility utilizes advanced high-speed production, packaging automation, and thermal processing lines to deliver world-class products. To support their ongoing plant modernization and digital evolution, they are seeking a highly capable, people-oriented production leader.
The Head of Production is a pivotal operational leader responsible for executing the production schedule across multiple high-speed manufacturing areas safely, reliably, and cost-effectively. This role goes beyond traditional shopfloor oversight; the successful candidate will drive Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and operational reliability metrics, manage manufacturing overheads, and build strong technical and leadership capabilities within the shopfloor workforce to support automation, digitization, and rapid product expansions.
1. Production Leadership & High-Volume Execution
Operational Scheduling:
Plan, coordinate, and execute daily and weekly production schedules across multiple areas, specifically focusing on high-speed, fast-moving food product lines.
Team Architecture:
Build, lead, and develop a high-performing production team, including Manufacturing Engineers, Line Leaders, and Production Administrators.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Partner closely with Maintenance, Planning, R&D, Quality, and Procurement to resolve daily operational bottlenecks rapidly and maintain supply reliability.
2. Performance, Cost & Reliability (OEE / GR1)
Performance Excellence:
Drive plant Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and Gross Reliability targets using Daily Direction Setting (DDS) processes to maximize line throughput.
Cost & Overhead Control:
Take financial accountability for controlling plant overheads, minimizing material wastage, and optimizing resource/manpower deployment.
Plan Attainment:
Secure high-velocity execution to meet or exceed regional demand planning targets.
3. Yield, Inventory & Digital Transformation
Inventory & Yield Discipline:
Optimize raw material and packaging yield, minimize scrap, and ensure inventory accuracy with tight variance controls.
Smart Manufacturing & Digitalization:
Embed and champion digital manufacturing tools on the shopfloor (including automated OEE dashboards, digital shift handover logs, and digital downtime capture) to facilitate data-driven decision-making.
Continuous Improvement (CI):
Implement structured Lean, Kaizen, and Six Sigma methodologies to drive process optimization and systematically eliminate non-value-added activities.
4. Automation, New Product Introduction (NPI) & Compliance
NPD Launch Support:
Coordinate the trial, validation, and commercialization of new food formulations and packaging introductions on the production lines.
Automation Engineering Integration:
Partner with the Engineering team on strategic automation projects, contributing from User Requirement Specifications (URS) through to installation, commissioning, and process stabilization.
HSE & Quality Governance:
Enforce uncompromising compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) guidelines, as well as global food quality systems (GMP, ISO, HACCP, FSSC 22000).
Education & Technical Competencies
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Food Science, Food Technology, or a related technical discipline.
Specialized Knowledge:
Deep familiarity with food safety guidelines, quality standards (HACCP, GMP, FSSC 22000), and industrial thermal/preservation processes.
Automation Familiarity:
Demonstrated exposure to or understanding of manufacturing automation systems and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) concepts (e.g., automated downtime tracking, digital work instructions, SCADA/HMI interfaces).
Data Literacy:
Analytical approach to problem-solving, with strong comfort using production data and visual dashboards for Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
Experience & Leadership Profile
Professional Background:
10+ years of progressive manufacturing operations experience, with a heavy preference for the
Food, Beverage, or fast-moving FMCG
sectors.
Critical Domain Expertise:
Direct experience working with fast-moving, high-volume products is highly preferred.
Candidates must demonstrate success managing the rapid cycle times and high-turnover SKUs typical of top-tier consumer food plants.
Superior People Leadership:
Outstanding people-management skills with a proven track record of managing shift-floor operations, handling performance management, addressing absenteeism, and leading diverse technical and operational shopfloor personnel.
