Job Description

About the Role

Uber is looking for a Sr. Manager, Payment Implementations to lead the strategy and execution of complex payment implementations globally. This role sits at the intersection of Payments, Product, Engineering, Operations and external payment partners and is responsible for ensuring new payment capabilities are implemented reliably and efficiently.

The role will own the end-to-end implementation of payment processing changes, including new market and line-of-business launches, payment processor implementations, and other initiatives that change how and where Uber processes payments.

This is a highly cross-functional individual contributor role requiring deep payments expertise, strong technical judgment, and the ability to drive complex initiatives from requirements through production launch.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead payment implementations end to end, translating business and payment requirements into implementation plans and driving execution through testing and launch.
  • Own card payment launch readiness, including payment configuration, processor and setup dependencies and production rollout.
  • Drive PSP and processing implementations, partnering with Payment Partnerships, Product, and Engineering to operationalize new processor capabilities.
  • Establish scalable implementation processes, playbooks, controls, and launch standards that allow Uber to deliver payment changes consistently across products and markets.
  • Partner closely with Product and Engineering to define technical requirements, prioritize dependencies, develop test strategies, and ensure appropriate observability and operational readiness before launch.
  • Coordinate across Payments and business teams, bringing together Payment Partnerships, Payment Product, Engineering, Operations, Finance, and other stakeholders to resolve dependencies and deliver against launch timelines.
  • Identify and mitigate implementation risk, anticipating processing, operational, regulatory, and customer-experience issues before changes reach production.
  • Provide senior-level subject-matter expertise on payment processing and implementation decisions, helping stakeholders navigate tradeoffs between reliability, cost, customer experience, and implementation complexity.
  • Drive complex initiatives through influence, establishing clear ownership and decision-making across teams and ensuring cross-functional programs remain on track from initial requirements through launch.

What You’ll Need

  • Significant experience in payments, with experience leading complex payment implementations. Ideally experience operating payment infrastructure at significant global or marketplace scale.
  • Strong understanding of the card payments ecosystem, including payment processors/acquirers, card networks, authorization flows, merchant accounts, digital wallets, and payment processing. Hands-on familiarity with 3DS, network tokenization, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and multi-processor architectures.
  • Experience leading cross-functional programs involving Product, Engineering, Operations, and external partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently lead complex, ambiguous initiatives across multiple organizations and stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose complex payment and implementation issues.
  • Ability to translate complex technical and payment concepts into clear business decisions and execution plans.
  • Experience launching payment capabilities across new markets, products, or lines of business.
  • Strong executive communication skills and the ability to influence across organizational boundaries without direct authority.

Basic qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in payments, fintech, or financial services, with a meaningful portion in partnership, business development, or commercial roles
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with the global payments ecosystem — card networks, acquiring, digital wallets, APMs, and regulatory landscape
  • Experience leading complex technical payment implementations at a global scale

Preferred qualifications

  • Strong strategic instincts with the ability to balance long-term vision with near-term business priorities
  • Experience influencing and communication skills, with credibility with a technical audience
  • Experience operating in a matrixed, fast-moving environment; comfort with ambiguity and a bias for action
  • People leadership experience, with a track record of developing high-performing teams
  • MBA or equivalent advanced degree preferred
