Head of Operations (Joint Campus Role – Mesa & AMS Power)
Location: Mesa, AZ (Supporting AMS Mesa & AMS Power Campuses)
Compensation: $70,000 – $80,000 annually (DOE)
Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is a high-performing K–8 public charter school network serving Title I communities across Arizona. The Head of Operations serves as the senior operational leader across two campuses: AMS Mesa and AMS Power, supporting both sites in achieving operational excellence and readiness. This role reports to campus leadership and partners closely with network teams to ensure consistency, compliance, and efficiency across all non-instructional functions.
This is a high-impact, multi-site leadership role responsible for overseeing student enrollment, campus operations, facilities, front office functions, compliance, and support staff management. The Head of Operations also serves as the on-site HR partner, ensuring alignment with AMS policies and supporting a strong, effective campus operations team across both locations.
Key Responsibilities
Campus Operations & Facilities
Oversee daily operations across both AMS Mesa and AMS Power campuses, ensuring safe, clean, and well-maintained environments.
Coordinate facilities management, repairs, vendor services, and preventative maintenance in partnership with network operations teams.
Maintain accurate records of campus assets, inventory, and equipment across both sites.
Ensure compliance with safety protocols, including coordination of emergency drills and partnerships with local authorities.
Enrollment, Student Services & Front Office
Oversee student enrollment processes across both campuses, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and data integrity.
Manage front office operations and supervise support staff to deliver high-quality service to families.
Support non-instructional student programming, including before/after-school programs and meal services.
Human Resources & Staff Management
Serve as the primary on-site HR partner for both campuses in collaboration with AMS central HR.
Support recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and development of campus operations staff.
Partner with school leadership on staffing decisions, workforce planning, and employee relations.
Financial & Operational Management
Manage campus-level purchasing and ensure alignment with AMS financial policies and procedures.
Monitor and support operational budgets across both campuses to ensure effective resource allocation.
Lead operational planning and continuous improvement initiatives to support campus growth and scalability.
Qualifications & Competencies
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher
Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in operations, management, or leadership roles
Demonstrated knowledge of operational management principles and best practices
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills with high attention to detail
Strong problem-solving, analytical, and strategic thinking abilities
Ability to manage priorities across multiple campuses in a fast-paced environment
Willingness to take a hands-on approach to facilities and operational needs
Commitment to serving students in underserved communities
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in a school, nonprofit, or education-based organization
Experience supporting HR functions (hiring, onboarding, employee relations)
Familiarity with student information systems and enrollment platforms
Experience managing cross-functional teams across multiple sites
