Job Description

Spacelift is a infrastructure management platform that oversees and automates how a company's digital infrastructure is built, configured, and governed. It works seamlessly with the industry-standard tools your engineering teams already use, bringing them together into a single, unified workflow — so the business can deliver secure, cost-efficient, and reliable technology systems quickly and at scale.

By automating routine technical processes and establishing clear, enforceable rules and approval workflows, Spacelift gives engineering teams the autonomy to move fast while ensuring the business retains full oversight, auditability, and control over its technology environment. Spacelift is known for its exceptional client support, transparent pricing, and flexible deployment options designed to meet the specific needs of each organization.

Spacelift was founded in 2020 by long-time DevOps practitioner Marcin Wyszynski and successful entrepreneur Pawel Hytry and has raised $82.3M in funding over four rounds from top venture capital firms including Insight Partners, Blossom Capital, Hoxton Ventures, Inovo Venture partners and Five Elms Capital.

We're a fast-growing B2B SaaS company looking for a commercially sharp, hands-on Head of Legal to manage and develop the legal team, currently consisting of two legal counsels. You'll be a true business partner — keeping us moving fast while managing risk smartly.

What You'll Do

  • Commercial & Contracts — Own our contract library, draft and negotiate complex commercial agreements (MSAs, SaaS, vendor, partnership), and partner closely with Sales on customer deals

  • Product Compliance Advisory — Provide legal advice throughout the product development and maintenance lifecycle

  • IP — Manage our trademark portfolio and protect our IP across commercial agreements

  • Compliance & Privacy — Lead compliance and data privacy programs, and monitor regulatory developments affecting our business

  • Fundraising & Corporate — Support equity/debt financing, investor documentation, due diligence, and board/governance matters

  • Legal Operations — Build scalable legal processes, manage external counsel, and develop the legal team as we grow

  • Strategic Advisor — Provide fast, practical legal guidance to leadership and all business teams

What We're Looking For

  • 8–12 years of legal experience, ideally combining law firm and in-house global/US tech/SaaS roles

  • Multi-jurisdictional exposure (EU, US)

  • Generalist experience, handling various topics and supporting all the teams across the organizations

  • Strong commercial negotiation skills with deep knowledge of SaaS agreements structures

  • Experience managing and mentoring a small legal team (1–3 people), with a willingness to remain hands-on

  • A pragmatic, business-first mindset — you enable the business, you don't block it

  • Comfortable being a doer: you draft, negotiate, and deliver yourself

  • Experience operating with high autonomy in a fast-paced, startup environment

Nice to Have

  • Solid international data privacy experience

  • IP portfolio management experience

  • Exposure to fundraising rounds, investment documentation and ESOP plans

  • Familiarity with Salesforce, Ironclad, DocuSign

Personal Approach & Ways of Working

  • Ownership & Accountability: you take full responsibility for outcomes, not just inputs. You proactively identify risks and opportunities, drive matters to completion, and stand behind decisions.

  • Collaborative Partnering: you work as an embedded partner to the business, building strong relationships across teams (Sales, Product, Finance, HR). You communicate clearly, concisely, and with context—enabling faster, better decisions.

  • Clarity & Efficiency in Communication: you translate complex legal topics into practical, business-friendly guidance. You prioritize speed and clarity over unnecessary complexity.

  • Self-Driven & Proactive you operate with high autonomy and internal motivation. You anticipate issues before they arise, take initiative, and continuously look for ways to improve how legal supports the business.

  • Honesty & Directness you communicate openly and transparently, including when delivering difficult messages. You build trust through integrity, consistency, and clear judgment.

  • Pragmatism & Solution Orientation you focus on enabling the business, not blocking it. You balance legal risk with commercial objectives and consistently propose practical, workable solutions.

  • Business Mindset: you understand commercial drivers and align legal advice with company goals, growth stage, and risk appetite.

  • Adaptability & Resilience: you thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment. You are comfortable operating with ambiguity and shifting priorities.

  • Continuous Learning & Intellectual Agility: you learn quickly and continuously—you stay up to date with evolving regulations, market practices, and business models. You adapt rapidly to new challenges, seek feedback, and apply learnings in real time to improve decisions and outcomes.
