The Head of Human Resources is a senior executive leadership role responsible for providing strategic and operational oversight of the organizations end-to-end HR function, with a strong focus on pension administration, employee benefits, and regulatory compliance within Nigerias financial services environment.
The role drives workforce strategy, talent management, compensation and benefits governance, and HR risk management in line with Nigerian Labour Laws, PenCom regulations, and industry best practices The Head of HR serves as a key strategic partner to Executive Management, ensuring the organization remains compliant, competitive, and performance-driven.
Develop and implement the organizations HR strategy aligned with corporate goals and regulatory requirements.
Serve as a strategic advisor to Executive Management on workforce planning, organizational design, succession planning, and talent retention.
Lead performance management frameworks, leadership development initiatives, and culture-building programs.
Lead the design, implementation, and management of employee pension schemes in strict compliance with PenCom guidelines and Nigerian pension laws.
Oversee retirement benefits, gratuity schemes, and long-term employee benefit programs.
Ensure accurate and timely remittance of pension contributions and effective engagement with Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs) and Custodians.
Design, implement, and periodically review competitive compensation and reward structures aligned with financial services benchmarks.
Oversee health insurance, life insurance, leave administration, and employee welfare programs.
Ensure compensation practices support attraction, motivation, and retention of high-performing talent.
Ensure full compliance with Nigerian Labour Laws, tax regulations, PenCom requirements, and financial services regulatory standards.
Develop, review, and enforce HR policies, procedures, employee handbook, and code of conduct.
Coordinate HR audits, regulatory reviews, and internal compliance assessments.
Oversee payroll administration, ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and statutory compliance.
Ensure effective integration of HRIS, payroll systems, and pension data.
Maintain accurate employee records and HR dashboards to support executive decision-making.
Oversee recruitment, onboarding, performance appraisal, disciplinary, and exit management processes.
Manage employee relations, grievance handling, and conflict resolution in line with company policy and labor law.
Drive learning and development initiatives to strengthen organizational capability and leadership pipelines.
Manage relationships with pension administrators, insurance providers, HR consultants, and regulatory bodies.
Negotiate and manage vendor contracts and service level agreements (SLAs) to ensure value and compliance.
Prepare and present HR metrics and reports including headcount analysis, cost-per-hire, attrition rates, pension exposure, and benefits utilization.
Provide data-driven insights to Executive Management to support strategic decision-making.
Bachelors degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, Industrial Relations, Law, or a related discipline.
Masters degree (MBA, MSc HRM, or equivalent) is an added advantage.
Minimum of 10 years progressive HR experience, with at least 5 years in a senior HR leadership role
Demonstrated experience managing pension administration, employee benefits, and HR compliance within financial services or regulated sectors.
Strong working knowledge of Nigerian Labour Law, PenCom regulations, PAYE, pensions, and statutory compliance
Proven experience using HRIS and payroll systems
CIPM (Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria) – Mandatory or highly preferred
CIPD (UK), SHRM-CP / SHRM-SCP, or equivalent international HR certification
Pension, compliance, or risk management certifications are an added advantage
Strategic HR leadership and executive advisory capability
Strong understanding of pensions, benefits, and regulatory compliance
Excellent stakeholder management and negotiation skills
High ethical standards and risk awareness
Strong analytical, reporting, and communication skills
Ability to operate effectively in highly regulated environments
