Damen Shiprepair Curaçao (DSCu) is a growing company in the Caribbean and is part of the Damen Shipyards Group. Since February 2017, DSCu operates the ship repair yard, continuing a full range of services for the maintenance, repair, refit and conversion of vessels and offshore constructions of all types and sizes for shipping companies all over the globe. 


DSCu has two (2) graving docks and 1.5 kilometers of quay that enables us to provide the highest quality of service to each project with its unique challenges and requirements.

THE ROLE:

We are looking for a Head of the department HSSEQ who thrives on building strong relationships across all levels of the organization.

In this role, you will play a key part in shaping and strengthening our HSSEQ culture, ensuring that health, safety, security, environmental responsibility, and quality are embedded in everything we do. You will empower teams, drive continuous improvement, and lead by example to create an environment where Safety and Quality always come first.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Develops and implements the integrated HSSEQ strategy, policies, objectives and annual plans aligned with corporate goals, local legislation and international standards.
  • Responsible for maintaining the company's ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 Management Systems, leading internal and external ISO audits and ensuring continued certification.
  • Is responsible for compliance with classification society requirements, and ISPS Code compliance.
  • Advises the Managing Director and Management Team on strategic HSSEQ risks and compliance exposure.
  • Monitors and evaluates HSSEQ performance across operations, ensuring effective inspections, audits, incident investigations, root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions.
  • Acts as the primary contact and company representative for all HSSEQ matters in dealings with local authorities, crisis management team, regulatory bodies and other relevant stakeholders.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor degree, preferably in Industrial Engineering, Marine Engineering, Quality Management, Safety and Security Management or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in Quality Management, HSSE or integrated management systems, including managerial responsibility.
  • Experience in ship repair or Maritime industry is a benefit
  • Knowledge of ISO Management System standards, 9001, 14001 and ISO 45001, ISPS Code and port security regulations.
  • Knowledge of local HSSE legislation and environmental regulations.
  • Familiarity with classification society requirements (DNV, Lloyd's, ABS, etc.).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. Profound in English, Dutch and Papiamentu is a benefit.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
