Global Credit Risk defines ING’s credit risk strategy, aligning lending practices with risk appetite and regulations while centrally managing credit restructuring and safeguarding the bank through Frameworks & Control, Credit Risk Intelligence & Provisioning, and Retail Banking and Wholesale Banking Portfolio Management.

As Head of Global Credit Restructuring, you will lead ING’s global restructuring activities and help build a future-fit credit risk organisation that enables safe, scalable growth across our global portfolio. The team

Global Credit Restructuring (GCR) is globally responsible for a safe, compliant and data-driven credit loss process by finding solutions for clients in financial difficulty and by closing the learning loop on lessons learned.

The role reports hierarchically to the Global Head of Credit Risk. You will lead a team of approximately 30 restructuring experts in Amsterdam and provide functional leadership to ING’s 8 Regional Restructuring Units (RRUs) globally. The team works closely with stakeholders across the bank as well as external parties including the ECB and auditors.

Roles and responsibilities

As Head of Global Credit Restructuring, you will:

• Lead a team of approximately 30 restructuring experts in Amsterdam and provide functional leadership to ING’s 8 Regional Restructuring Units globally.
• Drive the continuous optimisation of restructuring and recovery processes based on a thorough understanding of economic and legal considerations.
• Oversee the planning and execution of restructuring and recovery plans to enable maximum recovery outcomes.
• Coordinate closely with stakeholders across ING and ensure alignment with Regional Restructuring Units throughout restructuring and recovery processes.
• Optimise the capital impact of the restructuring portfolio, including NPL Backstop, RWA and secondary sales.
• Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations, including ECB guidance, IFRS 9 and EBA guidelines.
• Follow up on recommendations from the ECB, CAS and auditors and ensure appropriate implementation.
• Analyse developments within the global restructuring portfolio and identify relevant trends and risks.
• Promote knowledge sharing by actively communicating lessons learned from restructuring files across the organisation and acting as an advisor during Watch List Meetings.
• Build and maintain strong partnerships with stakeholders across ING at both global and local levels, as well as with external stakeholders.

• Solid knowledge of Credit Risk, including restructuring and recovery activities.
• Strong understanding of Wholesale Banking and Retail Banking and the broader business environment.
• Proven experience managing challenging client files with significant visibility and reputational impact.
• Strong leadership capabilities, including developing individuals and teams, coaching and sustaining high performance.
• Experience leading leaders and managing complex organisational dynamics.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills across senior internal and external stakeholders.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to assess complex restructuring situations.
• Ability to balance commercial, risk, regulatory and client considerations.
• Structured and balanced decision-making approach while taking multiple perspectives into account.
• Ability to act as a trusted partner and advisor in a complex international environment.
