Job Description

Food Standards Scotland (FSS) has a wide and diverse remit, encompassing policy, science and operational delivery across food and feed safety, standards and authenticity, together with diet and nutrition.

The post holder sits within Food Standard’s Scotland Local Authority Delivery Division and will be responsible for supporting Local Authorities in delivering their food law functions, providing technical risk management support to incidents and supporting FSS priority programmes of work related to SAFER and SPS.

Responsibilities

  • Leading and managing teams (across various locations, considering scale) as well as setting vision and purpose
  • Ensure decisions and priorities are made in real-time are based on evidence and analysis so that value and best service is maximised, h andling data and information sensitively in accordance with the business procedures and/or law.
  • Develop and maintain strong strategic relationships with key professional bodies representing Local Authority Food Law Services, ensuring continued support for FSS policies.

  • Provide specialist technical risk management advice to the Incidents Branch and technical advice to other FSS and SG teams as required and lead FSS representation at relevant meetings, seminars, and events.

  • Ensure timely and effective communication with the FSS Board, Scottish Ministers, and senior officials across other government departments. and provide clear liaison and collaborative support to other Divisions and strategic Programmes of work.

  • Manage a cost centre budget in line with FSS financial procedures, ensuring regular updates and effective engagement with the relevant business partner.

Working pattern

This role is a temporary position with an expected commitment of 23 months

Qualifications

An appropriate qualification recognised by REHIS/EHRB.
