Provides enterprise leadership for financial and underwriting risk management across life insurance and reinsurance businesses, ensuring balance sheet resilience, effective capital utilization, and sound governance. Partners with executive leadership and Boards to align risk appetite, capital strategy, and underwriting discipline with long-term business objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Set strategic direction for financial and underwriting risk across life insurance and reinsurance businesses.
  • Establish enterprise-wide risk frameworks, policies, and governance standards.
  • Define and maintain risk appetite for capital, financial, and underwriting exposures.
  • Oversee development and use of financial, actuarial, and underwriting risk models.
  • Oversee asset-liability management, liquidity planning, and enterprise stress testing.
  • Drive capital efficiency through reinsurance strategy, hedging programs, and product design.
  • Govern product approval, pricing policy, and underwriting standards across portfolios.
  • Design and oversee internal and external reinsurance programs, including counterparty oversight.
  • Oversee financial and risk reporting under United States generally accepted accounting principles (US GAAP) and United States Statutory frameworks.
  • Advise senior executives on strategic transactions, capital deployment, and emerging risk exposures.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in actuarial science, finance, economics, or related field
  • Fifteen years of progressive leadership experience in financial, actuarial, or underwriting risk management within life insurance or reinsurance organizations
  • Experience with enterprise risk frameworks, capital management, and balance sheet oversight
  • Deep knowledge of mortality, longevity, and morbidity risk in life and annuity products
  • Expertise in asset-liability management, stress testing, and stochastic modeling
  • Experience working with Boards, regulators, and rating agencies
  • Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) or Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries (FIA)

Preferred Qualifications

  • International experience across multi-jurisdictional life insurance or reinsurance markets
  • Experience partnering with investment teams on market, credit, and hedging risk oversight
  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA)
  • Financial Risk Manager (FRM)

  • Occasional travel for Board, regulator, and stakeholder meetings
