Your New Role

Australia’s $3.7 trillion superannuation industry is facing into a shifting landscape influenced by increased regulatory pressures, disruptive technologies, changes in demographics and ever-changing member expectations. It is critical that we understand and address these forces of change and are also able to adapt at a faster pace to respond to new challenges and capitalise on new opportunities.

The Head of Financial Control reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer and is a valued member of the Finance Leadership team.

The key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Ensure the Fund’s considerable financial, commercial, and operational activities are timely and accurate

  • Payroll, Procure to Pay, Accounts Payable and Operational Accounting are managed consistently, efficiently and effectively across the Fund

  • Ensure AustralianSuper’s global financial and regulatory reporting obligations (including ESG reporting requirements) for all its operating entities (including the Fund) across the globe are delivered accurately and on time to a leading standard

  • Maintain the Fund’s accounting policies and responsibility for technical accounting advice

  • Management and execution of the external audit program for all Fund entities in all locations, including operational management of the external auditor relationship.

  • Present to Finance and Audit Committee and Boards on all aspects of financial and regulatory reporting, including the annual financial statements.

  • Manage all Workplace & Property locations to ensure they are procured in line with MBFI and meets the needs of colleagues and jurisdictional health & safety requirements.

What You’ll Need

  • Results oriented and metrics driven
  • Strong understanding of technical accounting requirements in Australia, and some knowledge of UK and USA jurisdictions
  • Exceptional analytical and review skills are essential. The role holder must be able to identify when data and analysis are materially incorrect and obtain solutions.
  • Highly developed ability to understand and challenge existing and theoretical models to identify ways to drive efficiency
  • Working knowledge of Oracle (ERP and HCM) or similar platforms
  • Working knowledge of payroll
  • Advanced presentation and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated highly effective people management skills.
  • Proven successful influencing, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong organisational, administration and co-ordination skills.
  • High self-motivation and ability to set and work towards deadlines/milestones.
  • Above average interpersonal skills to deal with a diverse range of situations.
  • Ability to review and assimilate a significant volume of complex information.
  • Advanced computer software skills, including Excel and financial reporting software
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field
