Job Description

An opportunity for a qualified accountant to come join the Agency, to run our Finance Team and support the Chief Executive on all budgeting and accounting matters – taking the lead for preparing the Annual Report and Accounts, managing the exchange of financial information with the Scottish Government, overseeing our banking and financial systems: including those linked to 50,000 statutory debt products as the Agency helps individuals escape from unsustainable debt.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor and coach the Finance Team so that all staff can both contribute effectively and reach their potential.
  • Support the Chief Executive by attendance at Board and Audit Committee meetings, taking responsibility for the production and explanation of finance reports as required.
  • Form part of the Agency’s Senior Management Team, ensuring discussions at a strategic level take full account of the short, medium and longer term financial strategy of the Agency.
  • Working with Scottish Government colleagues to provide required financial information, and support the Chief Executive in budget negotiations.
  • Maintaining the operation of the Agency’s bank accounts and financial systems and ensuring that there are effective and robust internal financial controls in place across the Agency.
  • Maintaining financial data and processes within our case management systems to ensure accuracy and proper recording of all financial transactions between AIB systems, external customers and suppliers.
  • Overseeing the preparation of the statutory accounts and liaising with external auditors. Ensuring that internal and external audit recommendations are progressed.
  • Reviewing and modernising finance policies and procedures taking account of developments within IT systems, legislation and accounting standards, working closely with the Agency’s Head of Business Development and the Head of Digital.
  • Contribute to the network of delivery body heads of finance to spread and learn from best practice in similar bodies, and build opportunities for joint working where possible.
  • Ensuring all SOPs are followed, reconciliations are kept up to date, invoices are paid on time, aged debt is kept to a minimum.

Working pattern

This role is a permanent level transfer position.
