Job Description
Amazon's Global Procurement Sustainability (GPS) team sits at the intersection of procurement and Amazon's most ambitious environmental commitments; The Climate Pledge, Net Zero Carbon by 2040, Waste Prevention, Water Stewardship and Supply Chain Standards. As the Head of Environment, you will lead the GPS Environment pillar, serving as the critical link between Amazon's sustainability goals and the procurement strategies that make them real.
You will translate high-level environmental commitments into actionable, measurable programs across Amazon's global supplier base. This is a high-visibility, high-impact leadership role that requires both strategic vision and operational rigor
Key job responsibilities
Program Management
Own and drive a portfolio of parallel environmental programs across GPO-managed categories including Construction, Packaging, Equipment, MHE, and Services
Define program roadmaps, milestones, and success metrics for each initiative; manage trade-offs across competing priorities
Determine where GPS scales existing programs versus where it launches new capabilities, ensuring clarity of ownership with Category teams
Decarbonization & Scope 3 Emissions
Lead supplier decarbonization programs across 300+ top-spend suppliers, embedding carbon reduction commitments into procurement contracts and supplier selection criteria
Own product carbon footprint (PCF) data collection and GHG emissions tracking across 2,000+ products, driving progress toward Amazon's Net Zero Carbon goals
Develop and maintain carbon intensity (CI) reduction baselines and quantification methodologies across all categories
Carbon-Free Energy (CFE) & Renewable Energy
Lead Carbon-Free Energy (CFE) and Renewable Energy programs in partnership with Category Managers, internal teams and suppliers.
Drive supplier engagement on renewable energy adoption and TCP (The Climate Pledge) commitments
Materials Lifecycle & Low-Carbon Materials
Oversee low-carbon materials programs across construction, equipment, and MHE categories — including low-carbon steel, concrete, and MHE lifecycle emissions reduction
Partner with Category Managers to embed lifecycle thinking into procurement decisions and XBRs
Waste Reduction & Water Stewardship
Define and execute waste reduction quantification methodologies and strategies across GPO-managed categories
Lead water conservation strategy and infrastructure planning in alignment with Amazon-wide sustainability targets
Metrics, Cross-functional Leadership & Executive Communication
Own environmental impact metrics and quantification methodologies across all programs; contribute to Amazon's Sustainability Report and corporate ESG disclosures
Develop executive-level communications that balance technology/AI investment, cross-functional partnerships, and program outcomes
Partner with 10+ cross-functional teams including WWS, GPO Category Managers, Legal, SusTech, SSCT, Finance, GPORT, and WWOPS to embed environmental priorities into procurement decisions
