UGL’s Utilities team designs, constructs and maintains critical infrastructure across the power, water and renewable sectors, ranging from HV substations and transmission lines up to 500kV through to power stations and wastewater treatment plants. We design and construct substations, transmission lines, power generation and electrical distribution networks.

About the role

This Head of Engineering – Transmission Lines role provides high-level technical leadership and expertise across line and structural design for transmission line projects. Acting as a recognised technical authority, you will oversee complex engineering work and guide design outcomes across tenders and live projects.
You’ll play a key role in ensuring designs are safe, compliant, commercially viable and aligned to whole-of-life project outcomes, while also mentoring engineers and strengthening discipline capability.

Key responsibilities

  • Act as the technical authority within transmission line engineering
  • Lead line, structural and foundation design for transmission projects
  • Provide technical input across tenders, delivery and operations
  • Oversee design quality, compliance and engineering standards
  • Perform detailed engineering calculations and develop design documentation
  • Liaise with internal teams, clients and external specialists
  • Mentor and guide engineers, building capability within the team

About you

  • Degree in Engineering recognised by Engineers Australia
  • Chartered Engineer status (CPEng) or eligibility
  • 15+ years’ experience within transmission line engineering
  • Proven expertise in line design, structures and foundations
  • Strong technical knowledge across geotechnical and design principles
  • Experience with tools such as PLS-CADD, PLS-Tower or similar
  • Strong communication, leadership and stakeholder engagement skills
