Job Description

  1. Key Mission Build an engineering organization capable of developing Loom-owned hybrid inverter and BESS products that are: Safe Reliable Cost competitive Highly efficient Easy to install and service IoT/cloud connected Scalable from residential to C&I applications Designed for Indian grid and operating conditions Ready for domestic and international markets Primary objective: Build Loom's core power-electronics IP rather than remaining dependent on OEM products. 2. Key Responsibilities A. Product Architecture Own architecture for: Hybrid inverter On-grid inverter Off-grid inverter Battery inverter PCS Residential BESS C&I BESS Battery packs BMS EMS Energy gateway Monitoring platform Define: PV → Inverter → Battery → Grid → Load → EV system architecture. B. Hybrid Inverter Development Lead development of: 3 kW 5 kW 6 kW 8 kW 10 kW 15 kW+ Three-phase hybrid inverter platforms Key engineering areas: MPPT DC/DC DC/AC conversion Power semiconductor selection MOSFET/IGBT/SiC architecture Magnetics Gate drivers Protection circuits Grid synchronization Anti-islanding Power-factor control Harmonic reduction Thermal management Surge protection Firmware/control algorithms 3. BESS Engineering Develop scalable BESS platforms from residential to commercial applications. Responsibilities include: Battery pack architecture Rack design BMS Cell selection Battery balancing SOC/SOH algorithms Thermal management DC protection Contactors Fuses Pre-charge circuits PCS EMS Fire protection HVAC integration Containerized BESS architecture Battery monitoring Remote diagnostics Experience with LFP chemistry and large-format battery systems is highly desirable. 4. BMS & EMS Development Build or manage development of an intelligent BMS capable of: Cell monitoring Cell balancing Over-voltage protection Under-voltage protection Over-current protection Short-circuit protection Temperature protection SOC calculation SOH calculation Fault detection Event logging Remote diagnostics Develop EMS capabilities for: Solar self-consumption Peak shaving Time-of-use optimization Backup power Grid charging Solar charging Battery scheduling Demand management DG optimization Dynamic energy management 5. Software & Connectivity The inverter/BESS should become a connected energy platform , not merely hardware. Lead integration of: Embedded firmware DSP MCU CAN RS485 Modbus Wi-Fi 4G Bluetooth OTA firmware updates Cloud monitoring Mobile application Remote diagnostics API integration Target architecture: Device → Gateway → Cloud → App → Analytics → AI 6. Product Development Process Own the complete NPD process: Market requirement → Product specification → Architecture → Simulation → Prototype → EVT → DVT → PVT → Certification → Mass production → Field validation Establish engineering gates for: Design review BOM review Reliability review Safety review Software validation Hardware validation Production validation Field testing 7. Testing & Reliability Build an internal validation laboratory covering: Electrical Efficiency MPPT performance Power factor THD Load testing Grid simulation Battery cycling Environmental High temperature Low temperature Humidity Dust Water ingress Vibration Shock Altitude Safety Short circuit Over-voltage Over-current Thermal runaway Insulation Ground fault Surge Lightning protection The engineering head will be accountable for field failure rate and product reliability . 8. Certification & Compliance Lead product certification and compliance for relevant Indian and international standards, including applicable: BIS IEC IS standards EMC Grid-connectivity requirements Battery safety requirements Transportation requirements Fire-safety requirements Experience with certification laboratories and regulatory authorities is strongly preferred. 9. Manufacturing Transfer Work closely with: Manufacturing Quality Supply Chain Procurement NPD Service to achieve: Design → Prototype → Pilot → Mass Production Responsibilities include: DFM/DFA BOM optimization Component localization Test fixtures End-of-line testing Production calibration Yield improvement Cost reduction 10. Cost Engineering The leader must build products that can compete with Chinese and Indian manufacturers. Own: Target Cost → Design Cost → BOM Cost → Manufacturing Cost → Gross Margin Focus on: Component localization BOM reduction Design simplification Common platforms Supplier development Power density Manufacturing yield 11. Engineering Team to Build The Head of Engineering should build the following organization: Team Initial Strength Head – Power Electronics 1 Power Electronics Engineers 4–6 Embedded/Firmware Engineers 4–6 BMS Engineers 3–4 EMS/Software Engineers 3–4 Hardware Engineers 3–5 Mechanical/Thermal Engineers 2–3 Battery Pack Engineers 2–3 System Engineers 2–3 Testing & Validation 5–7 Certification/Compliance 2 Reliability Engineers 2 NPD/Project Managers 2–3 Initial team ~35–50 The organization can subsequently scale to 75–100+ engineers as Loom develops multiple product platforms. 12. First 12-Month Deliverables The leader should be evaluated against concrete product milestones. 0–90 Days Build engineering organization Finalize product roadmap Select technology architecture Identify OEM/technology partners where required Establish laboratory requirements Freeze first-product specifications Create engineering SOP/NPD process 3–6 Months Working hybrid inverter prototype Battery pack prototype BMS prototype EMS prototype Cloud monitoring prototype Initial laboratory validation 6–9 Months Engineering validation Field trials Certification Manufacturing prototype Reliability testing 9–12 Months Mass-production-ready Loom hybrid inverter + BESS platform with: Certification Production BOM Manufacturing test system Service manual Installation SOP Warranty framework Remote monitoring Field-service architecture 13. Candidate Profile Must Have 12+ years in power electronics Strong inverter experience Hybrid inverter/PCS experience BESS experience BMS understanding Embedded systems experience Product development experience Manufacturing-transfer experience Certification experience Team-building experience Preferred Experience with companies/products involving: Solar inverter Hybrid inverter PCS BESS Lithium battery EV power electronics Energy storage EMS Microgrid Experience working with Indian and Chinese engineering/manufacturing ecosystems would be a major advantage. 15. Leadership Expectations This is not a conventional R&D manager role . The person must be able to: Think like a CTO + engineer + product manager + manufacturing leader. They must be comfortable moving between: Customer → Product → Circuit → Firmware → Prototype → Factory → Certification → Field and personally solve critical engineering problems.
