Job Description
This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Head of Engineering in Brazil.
This is a high-impact technical leadership role combining hands-on engineering expertise with strategic team and architecture ownership. You will lead a distributed engineering organization while actively contributing to the codebase, shaping architecture decisions, and ensuring system reliability in a high-stakes fintech environment. The role requires close collaboration with product, security, DevOps, and offshore support teams to deliver scalable and compliant payment infrastructure. You will be responsible for building engineering culture, defining technical standards, and driving execution across core systems such as payments processing, reconciliation, and ledgering. This is a highly autonomous role where you are expected to move seamlessly between coding, system design, and leadership. The environment is fast-paced, global, and deeply focused on reliability, precision, and scale.
Accountabilities:
- Lead and grow a distributed engineering team, including hiring, mentoring, and setting strong technical standards.
- Act as a hands-on engineering leader, contributing to the codebase, reviewing pull requests, and unblocking engineers.
- Own system architecture across core technologies including Node.js, React, PostgreSQL, AWS, and related infrastructure components.
- Manage offshore DevOps, security, and production support teams to ensure operational stability and performance.
- Drive the design and reliability of high-volume payment systems, including ACH processing, ledgering, and reconciliation flows.
- Establish engineering best practices including CI/CD pipelines, TDD, peer review processes, and modern development workflows.
- Ensure compliance with fintech regulatory requirements such as NACHA, SOC 2, PCI DSS, and related standards.
- Represent engineering in cross-functional discussions with product, sales, and external stakeholders.
- Promote and integrate AI-powered development tools into daily engineering practices and team culture.
Requirements:
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 3–5+ years in technical leadership roles.
- Strong hands-on expertise in Node.js, React, PostgreSQL, REST APIs, and AWS.
- Proven experience building and scaling products from 0 to 1 in startup environments.
- Deep understanding of payment systems, especially ACH processing and fintech infrastructure.
- Strong knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, TDD, and modern software engineering practices in production environments.
- Practical experience with US fintech compliance frameworks such as NACHA, PCI DSS, GLBA, BSA/AML, and SOC 2 Type II.
- Experience working with distributed and offshore engineering teams.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- AI-native mindset with active daily use of modern AI coding tools.
- Nice to have: experience with CRM systems (e.g., Twenty CRM), and exposure to additional payment rails such as wire transfers, debit cards, and real-time payments.
Benefits:
- Competitive compensation aligned with senior leadership responsibilities.
- Fully remote work with flexibility across LATAM.
- High-impact leadership role shaping core fintech infrastructure at scale.
- Opportunity to work in a fast-growing, product-driven engineering environment.
- Strong autonomy with ownership over architecture and technical direction.
- Exposure to cutting-edge AI tools and modern engineering practices.
- Collaborative global team environment with strong technical culture.
