Your role

  • You will lead a team of firmware and electronics developers and promote their professional development through targeted coaching, training and regular, constructive feedback

  • You will ensure the reliable planning, implementation and monitoring of embedded systems projects by your team in accordance with schedules and budgets

  • You will collaborate closely across departments and locations (e.g. hardware development, quality assurance) and successfully integrate external development partners

  • You will develop modular platform solutions and integrate new technologies and trends in the field of embedded systems, contributing to quality improvement and reduction of development costs

  • You will integrate open source principles and represent Zeiss in external committees and open source communities

  • You will implement best practices in product/software development and system/firmware architecture and implement verification and validation strategies to ensure quality and reliability

  • You will ensure compliance with legal and normative requirements as well as relevant cybersecurity specifications in all development processes

Your profile

  • You have a degree in software engineering, computer science, electrical engineering or a related field

  • You have several years of professional experience in the successful and cross-functional development of embedded systems, preferably in medical device development

  • You have experience in technical and disciplinary leadership and in developing high-performing teams in a regulated environment and in the field of cybersecurity

  • You have experience in collaborating with and managing external development partners nationally and globally

  • You have in-depth knowledge of relevant programming languages such as C, C++, Python, as well as application knowledge in the use of Linux-based real-time operating systems, preferably Zephyr, as well as microcontrollers and bus systems (CAN, CAN-FD, TSN)

  • You are familiar with modern product and software development methods and associated CI/CD tools, such as GitHub, Azure DevOps and Jira

  • You have knowledge of platform development/product line engineering; practical experience is desirable

  • You have application-related project management skills and the ability to use both classic and agile approaches as appropriate to the situation

  • You have a solution-oriented and analytical mindset

  • You have good communication skills and experience in stakeholder management

  • You enjoy working with international and diverse teams.

  • You have very good English skills, written and spoken and good German skills
