About the Role

We need you to lead and shape how Environment, Safety, Security and Safeguards (E3S) requirements are defined, embedded, and delivered across the Rolls-Royce SMR programme.

This is a senior leadership role where you will set the strategy for E3S requirements and ensure they are effectively integrated into the design of our power stations. You’ll work at the interface of engineering, regulation, and safety, influencing critical design decisions that underpin safe, compliant and world-class nuclear delivery.

What You’ll Be Doing

We need you to:

  • Set the strategy and delivery approach for identifying and embedding E3S requirements into SMR design
  • Lead a diverse, high-performing team of E3S professionals supporting Engineering, Manufacturing and Operations
  • Partner with Engineering E3S Integration teams to drive requirements into design outputs
  • Provide expert advice to the business on E3S considerations related to power station design
  • Oversee engagement with customers and external stakeholders on E3S matters
  • Mentor colleagues across Regulatory Affairs and wider SMR teams
  • Ensure high-quality outputs at pace, working to demanding programme timelines

What Success Looks Like

In this role, success will be measured by:

  • Clear, traceable integration of E3S requirements within design outputs
  • Timely and high-quality delivery of E3S advice, training and analysis
  • Strong governance through effective management of integrated management systems (IMS) and documentation
  • A capable, engaged and continuously developing E3S team
  • Strong collaboration with Engineering and Regulatory stakeholders

About You

We’re looking for someone who brings a strong combination of technical expertise, leadership capability and stakeholder influence.

You’ll bring:

  • Demonstrable experience in the UK nuclear industry
  • Strong knowledge of E3S standards and regulatory requirements
  • Experience working with regulators in the UK and/or internationally
  • The ability to influence and communicate effectively at all levels
  • Proven experience engaging a wide range of stakeholders on complex programmes
  • A collaborative leadership style with the ability to develop and inspire teams

We know there’s no such thing as a perfect candidate — if you meet around 75% of the criteria, we’d love to hear from you.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Application of international and national E3S standards (Environment, Safety, Security or Safeguards)
  • Experience supporting high-hazard or highly regulated industries
  • Strong stakeholder management across internal and external environments
  • Leadership experience, including managing multidisciplinary teams
  • Degree-level qualification (or equivalent experience) in engineering, safety or science

Location & Ways of Working
