About the role

We are looking for a Head of Development, based in Madrid, to lead the Business and Project Development teams in identifying, developing, and securing renewable energy projects (solar, storage, agrivoltaics) within their assigned region. This role involves overseeing the entire project portfolio, ensuring alignment with the company’s strategic objectives, and driving the successful delivery of high-quality projects on time, within budget, and in full compliance with regulatory requirements.

Your main responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Business and Project Development teams, providing guidance, mentoring, and performance management;

• Define and implement the regional project development strategy in line with Amarenco’s growth and sustainability objectives;

• Lead the strategy for Grid Access and Connection, managing relationships with TSOs/DSOs and overseeing the security of grid capacity;

• Oversee project portfolio from early-stage prospecting and land securing to lease agreement signing and handover to the construction team;

• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams, ensuring alignment between internal functions (engineering, legal, finance, QHSE) and external stakeholders;

• Develop and approve project plans, including budgets, timelines, resources, and risk management strategies;

• Navigate the complex permitting landscape, ensuring all projects obtain necessary environmental and administrative authorizations at both local and autonomous community levels

• Ensure regulatory compliance across all projects with local, national, and international renewable energy standards;

• Establish and maintain strong relationships with landowners, agricultural operators, local authorities, public institutions, and other strategic partners;

• Support the commercial team in defining "Route-to-Market" strategies, including the evaluation of PPA opportunities and merchant structures;

• Monitor project pipeline performance, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies to ensure project delivery;

• Report to senior management on project progress, team performance, risks, and opportunities for improvement;

• Drive process improvements and contribute to the continuous enhancement of Amarenco’s project development methodology;
  

Profil sought

We are looking for a highly experienced Head of Business and Project Development, based in Madrid, to lead Amarenco’s activities in Spain. We are targeting a senior profile, with over 10 years of experience, possessing strong expertise in project management and leadership. Ideal candidate holds a Master’s degree in Engineering, Renewable Energy, Business Development, or a related field. You will have the opportunity to take on a managerial role, supervising project activities and supporting a team currently, with potential for future growth.

The ideal candidate is highly autonomous and able to operate effectively, bringing a strategic and complementary perspective to the team. This role requires solid experience in managing complex, multidisciplinary projects, ensuring regulatory compliance, negotiating contracts, and engaging with a wide range of stakeholders. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high standards of quality and performance. In-depth knowledge of renewable energy technologies (solar, storage, agrivoltaics), hybridization strategies, budgeting, and resource planning is essential.
