We are looking for a Head of Design Technology to lead and grow our Design Technology team in Copenhagen. This is a senior, hands-on leadership role: you will set the direction for design technology across the Copenhagen studio while staying deeply involved in the work itself, building tools, deploying applications, and solving real problems on live projects with real deadlines. This is a role for a leader who leads from the front, not a manager removed from the craft.
This role is part of BIG's global ambition to deepen our technological skills and become the most advanced AI-enabled architectural organization in the world. The global Design Technology department, led by the Chief Design Technology Officer, is at the core and center of that mission. As the new Head of DT Copenhagen, you will be reporting to the local leadership and the Chief Design Technology Officer[SS1.1], and be the driving force for design technology locally, uniting BIM, computational design, AI, Sustainability, Model Shop and visualization into one coherent practice and making sure new methods actually land in project teams.
We are looking for a rare profile: someone who combines deep architectural experience across all its stages, genuine technical depth and the ability to lead and communicate across multiple organizational tiers. You are equally comfortable writing code and shaping strategy, and you can navigate the complexity of driving change in a large creative studio. Fluency with AI is essential. You should be hands-on with how AI is reshaping the way we design and build, and able to turn it into practical value for project teams[SS2.1]. As part of this, culture and change management are essential skills to thrive in this position.
Please submit your CV, portfolio, and motivation letter. If your profile aligns with our current recruitment needs, we will be in touch. If not, we still sincerely thank you for your time and interest in BIG.
As we are excited to welcome our new colleague to our team, we are looking to fill this position as soon as possible. Interviews are conducted on an ongoing basis, and the job ad will be taken down when the right candidate has been found.
Diversity has been part of our DNA since BIG’s foundation. A multitude of cultures and backgrounds creates a new point of reference which leads to amazing insights. At BIG, we celebrate and support diversity because it makes our team, work and the built environment better. We are proud to be an equal opportunity workplace and take affirmative action to employ equally regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, or gender identity.

BIG is a Copenhagen, New York, London, Barcelona, Shanghai, Los Angeles, Zurich, and Bhutan-based global architecture firm operating within the fields of architecture, urbanism, interior design, landscape design, product design, and research & development. The office is currently involved in a large number of projects throughout Europe, North America, Asia, the Middle East, and Oceania.
BIG’s architecture emerges out of a careful analysis of how contemporary life constantly evolves and changes, not least due to the influence from multicultural exchange, global economic flows, and communication technologies that all together require new ways of architectural and urban organization. We believe that in order to deal with today’s challenges, architecture can profitably move into a field that has been largely unexplored.
A pragmatic utopian architecture that steers clear of the petrifying pragmatism of boring boxes and the naïve utopian ideas of digital formalism. Like a form of programmatic alchemy, we create architecture by mixing conventional ingredients such as living, leisure, working, parking, and shopping. By hitting the fertile overlap between pragmatic and utopia, we as architects once again find the freedom to change the surface of our planet to better fit contemporary life forms.
