Job Description

We’re looking for an experienced Back of House Head of Department to work alongside our existing Head of Department, sharing responsibility for one of Mint People’s busiest and fastest-growing divisions.

This is a senior role with real responsibility. You’ll help lead the team, manage major client relationships, oversee delivery and play a key part in the continued growth of the department.

At Mint, you’ll be trusted to get on with the job. You’ll have the backing of an ambitious business, strong support around you and the freedom to make decisions, improve how we work and help shape where the department goes next.

THE PACKAGE

• £45,000+ salary, depending on experience

• Uncapped performance-based commission + bonus

• Car allowance

• Company mobile phone

• Company pension

• 28 days holiday + your birthday off + additional holiday for length of service

• Freedom to manage your own working hours around the needs of the department

• Senior-level autonomy, with the trust to make decisions and run your area your way

• Clear opportunity to increase your earnings as the department continues to grow

• A genuine leadership role with influence over how the department develops and performs

THE ROLE

You’ll work closely with our existing Head of Department to lead the Back of House division across a substantial portfolio of clients.

Together, you’ll be responsible for maintaining high service levels, supporting the internal team, managing key accounts and making sure the department continues to perform as it grows.

This is a varied role. One day you could be working with the team on a major staffing requirement, the next speaking with a key client, reviewing performance or solving an operational challenge.

You’ll be involved in:

• Leading, supporting and developing the Back of House team

• Working alongside the existing Head of Department to manage the division

• Managing a client portfolio generating more than £6 million per year

• Building strong relationships with key clients

• Overseeing service delivery across multiple venues and accounts

• Supporting recruitment and retention of chefs and Back of House staff

• Managing workforce planning, availability and deployment

• Helping the team manage large-scale staffing requirements

• Using technology and systems confidently to manage performance and delivery

• Monitoring department performance and identifying areas for improvement

• Supporting the growth of existing accounts

• Identifying new commercial opportunities

• Maintaining strong standards across compliance, communication and service

• Stepping in when challenges arise and making clear decisions when needed

• Working closely with the wider Mint leadership team

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Ideally, you’ll already have experience within hospitality staffing or recruitment and understand the demands of managing large numbers of workers across multiple clients.

You’ll be confident managing people, comfortable dealing with senior clients and able to handle a busy operation without losing sight of the bigger commercial picture.

We’re looking for someone with:

• Strong leadership and people management skills

• Experience managing and developing a team

• A background in staffing, recruitment or hospitality operations

• Strong client relationship management skills

• Experience managing high-value accounts

• Strong technology and systems skills

• Excellent organisation and problem-solving ability

• Commercial awareness

• Confidence making decisions and taking responsibility

• The ability to work collaboratively with another senior manager

• A full UK driving licence and a car.

COMING FROM A KITCHEN BACKGROUND?

We’re also open to speaking with experienced chefs and senior kitchen professionals looking to move into a different side of hospitality.

If you’ve managed large kitchen teams, dealt with staffing pressures, maintained standards, managed budgets and built strong relationships with venues, suppliers or senior stakeholders, you may already have many of the skills this role needs.

A recruitment background would be ideal, but it isn’t the only route into the role.

We can teach you the recruitment side.

What matters most is that you can lead people, build relationships, use technology confidently and take responsibility for a large, busy department.

WHY MINT?

Mint People has spent more than 18 years supplying hospitality talent to venues, events, hotels and businesses across the UK.

Our Back of House division has reached a point where continued growth means we need more senior management resource.

That’s why this role exists.

You’ll be joining an established department, working alongside an experienced Head of Department and taking responsibility for helping manage its next stage of growth.

You’ll have support when you need it, autonomy when you don’t and an uncapped commission structure that rewards performance.

We want someone who can come in, build strong relationships with the team and clients, take ownership of their responsibilities and help us keep pushing the department forward.

If you’re ready for a senior role in a growing hospitality staffing business, we want to hear from you.
