Our capabilities support investment workflows, valuation, credit risk, market analysis, performance tracking and idea generation. We work with clients across financial markets to help them understand opportunity, manage risk and operate more effectively.

Job Description

The Role: This is a senior commercial leadership role covering one of S&P Global Market Intelligence’s most important APAC markets. Based in Tokyo, you will lead the Japan sales team, shape the commercial strategy, own revenue execution and build senior client engagement across Japan. The role requires a leader who can combine people management, commercial discipline and hands-on involvement in complex client opportunities.

Japan is a sophisticated and strategically important financial market, with strong demand for data, analytics, valuations, risk and workflow solutions across buy-side and sell-side institutions.

You will drive growth across existing relationships and new clients through data, analytics and workflow solutions spanning Fixed Income, Securities Finance, OTC Derivatives, Collateral Management, valuations and related financial market capabilities.

The successful candidate will be expected to lead from the front, raise the quality of sales execution and build trusted senior relationships with key financial institutions in Japan.

You will coach the team to act as trusted advisers by understanding client challenges and connecting those needs to relevant S&P Global Market Intelligence capabilities.

The Team / The Business: The Japan team is composed of experienced financial services professionals covering a sophisticated client base across buy-side and sell-side institutions. The role requires clear accountability, individual development and close partnership with regional sales, relationship management, product, business development, marketing and client support teams. It also requires the ability to represent Japan’s market opportunities, client needs and revenue priorities in regional and global planning discussions.

Your Skills: You are a credible commercial leader with strong knowledge of Japan’s financial markets, sound commercial judgement and the ability to influence senior stakeholders through clear, structured communication. You can create urgency, make practical commercial decisions and build confidence with both clients and internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities

· Lead, coach and manage the Japan sales team, setting clear priorities, expectations and accountabilities.

· Own the Japan revenue plan and deliver new business, expansion and retention outcomes across existing clients and new logos.

· Drive senior client engagement, support complex enterprise sales and coach the team through origination, qualification, solution design, negotiation and closure.

· Develop and execute the Japan sales strategy, including territory planning, account prioritisation, prospecting campaigns and coordination with Relationship Managers.

· Improve pipeline quality, forecast accuracy and disciplined use of Salesforce to support management visibility and decision-making.

· Build strong knowledge of S&P Global Market Intelligence products, competitor offerings, market trends and client requirements in Japan.

· Partner with APAC and global product, business development, marketing, client services and sales leadership teams to coordinate resources and deliver client outcomes.

· Identify gaps in market coverage, client engagement and sales capability, and take practical action to improve performance.

· Support hiring, onboarding, performance management, succession planning and development of the Japan sales team while promoting a collaborative, inclusive and compliant sales culture.

Required Experience

· 10+ years of relevant commercial experience, including proven sales leadership experience in Japan.

· Demonstrated record of achieving revenue targets, growing a book of business and managing complex enterprise sales cycles.

· Strong knowledge of Japan’s financial markets, with experience selling data, analytics, financial technology, market intelligence or workflow solutions.

· Established network across Japan’s financial industry, including buy-side and sell-side institutions.

· Experience engaging senior clients and internal stakeholders in complex, multi-party sales environments.

· Native or near-native Japanese language capability, with strong business-level English for regional and global stakeholder engagement.

Preferred Experience

· Experience in Fixed Income, Derivatives, Securities Finance, Collateral Management, valuations or related financial market data solutions.

· Experience working across local, regional and global teams, including influencing stakeholders outside direct reporting lines.

· Strong executive presentation, negotiation, coaching and stakeholder management skills.

· Experience using Salesforce and applying structured pipeline discipline.

Success in This Role

· Delivery of Japan revenue growth across new business, expansion and retention.

· Improved pipeline discipline, forecast accuracy and sales execution.

· Stronger senior client engagement across key financial institutions in Japan.

· Development, coaching and retention of a high-performing Japan sales team.

· Effective collaboration with APAC and global stakeholders to position Japan’s priorities clearly and secure the right support for clients and growth initiatives.
