Job Description

The Head of Commercial Insurance is the senior Commercial Insurance leader within Chubb for Thailand, with full accountability for the Small Commercial and Middle Market customer segments — companies with revenues from US$1 to US$1 billion.

This newly combined role brings together the Small Commercial / Digital Commercial leadership function and the Middle Market Commercial Insurance management role into a single, unified leadership position.

The role is responsible for building and executing the underwriting strategy, driving profitable growth, leading distribution relationships, and transforming the Small Commercial division from a transactional underwriting approach into a portfolio underwriting-led segment.

The role holder will lead significant change management as the new combined structure is implemented across Thailand.

Responsibilities

P&L Accountability: The role carries full P&L ownership for the Commercial Insurance portfolio across [Territory], with direct responsibility for premium, profitability, growth, retention, and expense management.

• Full accountability for premium, profitability, growth, retention, and expense plans and results for the entire Commercial Insurance portfolio.
• Analyse local market trends and develop strategies and new product development initiatives relevant to the Asia market context.
• Escalate material financial risks and anomalies to the Head of P&C and Regional Management as appropriate.

Forecasting & Reporting:

• Manage and report monthly and quarterly forecasts to the Head of P&C and Asia Regional Management.
• Escalate potential booking anomalies including reinsurance changes, account lapses, and large mid-term adjustments.
• Provide timely and accurate performance commentary to support regional governance and decision-making.

Portfolio Management: The role holds direct profit and loss responsibility for both the Small Commercial and Middle Market segments, spanning the full product portfolio.

• Establish and manage an agile portfolio review process across both segments.
• Coordination, distribution management, and production responsibility across Property, Casualty, Financial Lines, Cyber, Industry Practices, Marine and Construction.
• Serve as point of contact for risks which fall outside of field underwriting authority; coordinate with relevant line of business and Industry Practice leaders.
• Ensure portfolio quality is maintained through proactive monitoring of concentration, catastrophe exposure, and loss trends.

Undewriting Strategy & Execution:

• Authority holder across all product lines within the portfolio (P&C underwriting skill set a minimum requirement).
• Manage execution of new and renewal underwriting strategy for local underwriters and in tandem with remote or shared resources.
• Monitor wording integrity in line with Product Board guidance.
• Drive the implementation of the Digital Underwriting Strategy for the Small Commercial segment.
• Analyse Small Commercial market trends and lead development of new product initiatives to strengthen competitiveness across Thailand.

Underwriting Audit & Quality:

• Manage the underwriting audit and peer review process, including conducting reviews personally where required.
• Monitor underwriting quality and maintain Satisfactory audit scores across the portfolio.
• Maintain underwriting authority violations below the permitted threshold.
• Ensure consistent application of underwriting guidelines and standards across the team.

Marketing Strategy & Distribution:

• Manage relationships with distribution partners, brokers, and the agency team.
• Lead product development and distribution strategy for new and renewal business.
• Educate broker partners on Chubb appetite across Property, Casualty, Financial Lines, Cyber, Industry Practices, Marine and Construction.
• Coordinate marketing and production activities for the full Commercial Insurance portfolio.

People Leadership & Development:

• Full accountability for performance management and compensation for the Commercial Insurance team in Thailand.
• Lead change management activities arising from the new combined organisational structure, working closely with HR and L&D.
• 10+ years of underwriting and/or marketing experience across P&C lines; multiline commercial underwriting experience is essential.
• Demonstrable experience in portfolio management across Property, Casualty, Financial Lines, Cyber, Industry Practices, Marine and/or Construction.
• Experience of Digital/Small Commercial underwriting approaches and platforms.
• P&L management experience at a segment or territory level.
• Experience building, managing, and developing high-performing underwriting teams.
• Strong understanding of field distribution (broker, regional, independent agents) in Asia markets.
