Job Description

Smart Environmental Limited plays a critical role in supporting cleaner, more sustainable communities. We collect and provide waste and recycling services on behalf of local councils, businesses, and communities across New Zealand. With a large national fleet, extensive
collection and linehaul operations, our clear focus is on diverting waste from landfill.

Following our acquisition by Blue Planet Environmental Solutions, we are entering an exciting
phase of growth, transformation, and operational scale.

To support that growth, we are seeking an experienced and commercially minded operational
leader to join us as Head of Commercial Delivery

About the role

This is a newly created senior leadership role focused on turning commercial growth into safe,
reliable, and scalable operational delivery. Reporting to the GM Commercial, you will sit at the intersection of strategy and execution — ensuring new commercial opportunities, operational initiatives, and service commitments are successfully implemented across the business.

You will lead complex programmes from mobilisation through to business-as-usual operations,
working closely with operational leaders to strengthen delivery capability, improve performance, and ensure the business can grow with confidence.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in complex operational environments, brings calm
and clarity under pressure, and knows how to drive execution across multiple moving parts.

Key responsibilities

You will:

  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of major commercial and operational programmes from implementation through to BAU integration
  • Translate commercial commitments into clear operational plans with ownership, timelines, accountability, and measurable outcomes
  • Identify delivery risks early and drive practical solutions through to resolution
  • Partner closely with the GM Commercial and operational leadership teams to prioritise initiatives and maintain execution focus
  • Support and strengthen operational capability across a growing national business
  • Lead the management of complex service, operational, and customer issues, including escalations and regulatory requirements
  • Drive continuous improvement across safety, service reliability, operational performance, and cost efficiency
  • Improve operational discipline, communication, and cross-functional coordination across the business
  • Build scalable processes and operational frameworks to support future growth

About you

You are a senior operational leader with strong commercial awareness, sound judgement,
and a proven ability to deliver in high-pressure environments. You are pragmatic, resilient, and outcomes focused. You know how to balance operational realities with commercial expectations and are comfortable making decisions in complex and evolving situations.

You will bring:

  • Significant leadership experience within logistics, waste, infrastructure, utilities, transport, or similarly complex operational sectors
  • A proven track record delivering large-scale operational or commercial programmes
  • Experience working within regulated, customer-facing service environments
  • Strong operational planning, programme delivery, and stakeholder management capability
  • The ability to lead through influence, challenge constructively, and maintain momentum through change
  • A strong focus on safety, process improvement, accountability, and execution

Travel will be required at times to support the growth of the business, ranging from
occasional day trips to weekly trips away depending on operational and commercial requirements.

What sets you apart?

  • You simplify complexity and create clear direction
  • You focus on outcomes, not just activity
  • You remain composed and decisive under pressure
  • You build trust quickly across operational and commercial teams
  • You are highly accountable and follow through on commitments
  • You know how to balance pace with operational discipline

Why join us?

This is an opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping how Smart Environmental delivers
its next phase of growth. You will work alongside senior leadership on high-impact initiatives that directly influence operational performance, customer outcomes, and future business capability.

As the business continues to expand under Blue Planet ownership, this role offers genuine scope
to grow, influence strategic direction, and help build a stronger, more scalable national operation.

Benefits

  • Senior leadership role with national scope and influence
  • Opportunity to shape operational capability during a significant growth phase
  • Collaborative and fast-moving environment
  • Competitive salary package plus car
  • Ongoing career growth and development opportunities
