Job Description

Technology Standards licenses Nokia’s intellectual property, building on Nokia's continued innovation and decades of R&D leadership in technologies deployed in virtually all connected devices today.

The Licensing team engages with companies benefiting from Nokia innovations in their solutions across various industry verticals, including but not limited to mobile and consumer electronics devices, automotive and various other IoT solutions as well as multimedia solutions. Licensing leverages Nokia’s strong essential patent portfolio related to connectivity and video standards, as well as other patents covering further technology areas in Nokia’s R&D focus.

In this role, you will play a pivotal part in shaping and advancing Nokia's licensing programs by leading China licensing activities, provide local market understanding, and fostering impactful collaborations to maximize the value of our intellectual property portfolio.


As part of our team, you will:

  • Build and maintain customer relationships with different Chinese stakeholders (licensees, partners, vendors, courts)
  • Provide the rest of Licensing team with China patent licensing market understanding
  • Support with the licensing negotiations in China and conclusion of patent licensing agreements
  • Lead certain patent licensing discussions, in accordance with the strategic directions provided by the licensing program leaders
  • Support licensing programs in achieving business goals and targets.
  • Lead, coach and develop the China Licensing team
  • Must be able to multitask across multiple licensing engagements and handle several license negotiations concurrently.
  • Demonstrate strategic thinking and a broad business perspective to design and develop projects, processes, and content relevant especially for our patent licensing business.
  • Influence business strategy to address internal or external business and customer issues.
  • Travel: up to 40%
  • At least 7 years of experience in patent licensing
  • Proven deal-making skills – ability to understand all sides in a negotiation while seeking effective and creative solutions.
  • Excellent networking and collaboration skills
  • Good negotiation, influencing, and presentation skills as well as a team player mindset.
  • Familiarity with patent licenses and related legal agreements is required.
  • Excellent market understanding and ambition to keep up to date with (local) licensing market development
  • Project and time management skills, and determination to see things through to completion.
  • Demonstrates creative thinking and acts innovatively to develop and apply new approaches to complex problems
  • Able to work with high degree of independence.
  • Team leadership experience is a plus
  • Willingness to travel and to work under pressure.
  • Communication skills, excellent command of written and spoken English and Mandarin
